Everyone say hello to the jerk.... (that's me)

Mar 29, 2012 16:37

Some of y'all already know how famous (or infamous) I've inadvertently become in some communities.

It all started last summer over two simple posts.

The start of it all )

Sometimes you say things that are admittedly dense, sometimes you say things that are unintentionally patronising, but you know what? You're making an effort to change these things, which is much more than what can be said about some people out there in cyber space and reality. I've noticed this - when someone calls you out on something, provided they're not trying to pick a fight (as I still remember from a couple of years ago, since that person was snipey to me as well), you take it as a sign that this is something to rectify and you apologise for any ill feelings caused. I've only seen this twice online, but it's still something that counts, Duston ( ... )

I wonder if you would have gotten flack for your comments if they thought you had a uterus. :/

They would say that I'm a repressed woman who has self-hate due to the misogynistic society.

The bottom line from the FAS war was that since I do not have a uterus I am not allowed to comment in any way, shape or form on women's issues or reproduction in general.

Because, you know. men don't participate at ALL in reproduction, raising children or taking care of the women in their lives.

It ultimately is really misandrist thinking because these people automatically assume that all men are useless bums who rape women and then toss them in the gutter. If they thought any more highly of men then they would understand that real men have vested interests in preserving women's rights and in disseminating knowledge on reproductive health issues.

If they had any common sense (which it sounds like they lack), they should have taken that into account, as well as that pregnant women have a responsibility to be careful.

Granted, as it turns out the woman in question was not actually pregnant; but was incensed that a flight attendant would DARE ASK to be sure before serving two drinks of hard alcohol.

Sorry but the flight attendant is not a slave, in addition to serving you a flight attendant is tasked with your safety during the flight so it is absolutely within her domain of responsibility to ensure that everyone's health and well-being is taken into consideration.

I emailed the airline in question praising the flight attendant's actions and got an email back a few days later thanking me for the feedback and specifically saying that they appreciated my applause for the flight attendant's questioning of a woman's state of pregnancy before serving hard alcohol.

I think this sums up a lot of what we are all saying here:

But I have to say that I appreciate the hell out of this post. It is sincere and thorough, and I honestly believe that people merely took some comments the wrong way. But that is par for the course with people becoming increasingly hyper politically correct.Thank you ( ... )

You're welcome.

I suppose that I have been lucky with my LJ not having been used. An old manager that added me on FB tried bitching me out at work about stuff I posted under a friends lock, so I blocked her and kept my content posted. lol

You're are most certainly correct. I thought perhaps I was one of the only people that have noticed this trend among people in general. They information they spout is sometimes not even correct, but they are so overly passionate about things that may or may not have anything to do with them. It's sad that you can't have simple discussion without some attention-seeker showing up and ruining the entire things.

But then a phrase like "Don't feed the trolls" wouldn't exist without them. ;D
