The drones, students and teachers both, and the infantile coursework, and the fact that they wouldn't let me arm myself!

I was only trying to bring a mere knife into the school with me, just in case. I kept it hidden, but it was discovered.

The work is either so simple a baby could do it or mind-boggling confusing, and they won't let us bring weapons to protect ourselves into the classroom! What if the drones all suddenly went insane?

Then you just play along. As for the latter, there's really nothing we can do about that, so you just have to trust that the adults will be able to get to you.

I need to be able to fight for myself, at least as a last resort. Having allies is all well and good, but in the end the only one you can really trust with your life is yourself.
