Okay, so last night, for
srw_unlimited, we ran "The Lights in the Sky Are Stars," aka the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann finale. We based it off of Lagann-hen's finale...and we blew it away. It was the most fun, most epic mission I've been in during the course of the entire RP, and once it gets posted, I am linking the log because it DESERVES TO BE READ.
That picture? It's a TCG card. Yes, Fire Emblem briefly had its own TCG.
Anyway, due to what storytelling was on SNES games in 1996, Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu's characters really only got partial fleshing out. However, one of the most fleshed-out characters in the entire game is Alvis.
He's had one hell of a life. When he was seven, his father hanged himself because Alvis's mother fell in love with another man. He takes charge of House Velthomer and helps raise his younger half-brother, Azel. Then when he gets older, he meets a woman named Deirdre and falls in love with her. But there are two problems, neither of which Alvis knows: First, she's already married to the protagonist, Sigurd (though Deirdre doesn't know this, either; her memories had been wiped); and second, they're actually related. And this is all a plan by the Lopt Cult to bring back their god in an appropriate vessel. And Alvis ends up doing some pretty bad stuff, like luring Sigurd into a trap and torching him for a crime he didn't commit.
But he's not really a bad guy. He just wants what's best for Jugdral. In his mind, that's conquering the entire continent and forming an empire, and to be fair to the guy, it does work for about 15 years. Then his son, Julius, gets possessed by the aforementioned dark god and starts messing things up. Alvis tries to stop him, but nothing works. So by the time the party meets him, he's pretty much become a death seeker -- but even at his worst, he still fights Sigurd's son, Celice, with all of his being. And in the end, he actually manages to come off as somewhat sympathetic, despite what he's done. Even Celice feels sorry for him.
And on a different note? He's the only character in the entire game who can use Falaflame, the strongest fire magic there is. Given my predisposition toward fire magic, that automatically ranks him as cool in my book. But even aside from that, he's one of the series' more interesting antagonists.
Also, check out his
