Anime Dubbing

What language(s) did you watch the HxH anime in? Do you have any opinions on any of them?*

Which character has your favorite voice? Which one has your least favorite?

And finally, has the anime interfered with the voices you give the characters while reading the manga?

My answers... )

Watched some hxh in Japanese I guess (I'm mostly a manga only fan, I'm not much for the anime). I really didn't like the voices for Killua or Illumi, I could tell that both voices were done by females, and it annoyed me. Plus that Illumi to me should have a really emotionless voice, something that the voice actress didn't accomplish for me.

I did really like the voices for Gon, Leorio and Hisoka. All three of them were spot on for me.

I'm more of a manga fan myself, but I think it's fun to see the characters animated every one in a while. ^^

I agree with you about Illumi and Killua's voices, except that I like Killua's. The VAs sound like they really have to force themselves to sound like males. (I think this applies to some extent to Kurapika, too, but it's not as noticeable.)

So far I've only heard the Arabic opening theme, but I've been meaning to watch the dub itself. I'm interested to hear Hisoka now.

I watched the anime in spanish, then japanese. I really liked the spanish one, it was the closest one to the voices I had in mind.
Killua's and Kurapika's voice (in spanish) were pretty good, tho my favorite was definitely Hisoka's *__* sooo sexy. lol Too bad Hisoka's voice in japanese wasn't as good as I expected.

You're one of the few people I've seen who aren't crazy about about Hisoka's Japanese voice. I like it myself, but it definitely wasn't what I imagined.

I've only seen it in Japanese. But if I ever did get may hands on the English dub, I'd give it a go. But English is notorious for having really bad pronunciations of names.
One thing I have figured out is that I usually watch an anime in the language I first heard it in. An example is that I watch Trigun in Jap because that's what I prefer, but I always watch GitS:SAC in English.

That's definitely something I do too. I think you just get stuck on those original voices, and if they change those around in another dub, even if it would sound alright on its own, it just doesn't fit.

I agree that the pronunciations aren't always good in English dubs.

I've only watched it in Japanese, and that was only after seeing the HxH musicals (in which, if you didn't know, the characters are actually played by the voice actors), so I thought their voices were perfect. I'd probably pick up a Spanish dub if I had the time to watch it, but I would never try an English dub. I don't think they could pull it off.

Ah, the musicals...

The English dub isn't terrible, but I understand wanting to stick with the version you think is perfect.

I have a really difficult time switching between different dubs. I still refuse to watch certain shows or certain seasons of shows in Japanese, because I grew up with the English dubs (this is especially true with the first season of Sailor Moon).
