Strangest Places

No one else understood, Sam thought as he watched them. He sat with his back to Dean’s chest, one of his brother’s arms curled over his shoulder and holding onto his chest, hand resting over his heart as if he was counting each beat.

It wasn’t just the metal they had to fight anymore. Metal and man, things made to look like them. They’d known they were out there, but there weren’t always enough dogs and Cameron wasn’t always there.

She’d come through though, shown up at the last minute and taken the other Terminator out. The fight had been pretty vicious and she had gapes in her leg and arm where the other metal had ripped and pulled flesh from metally bone.

They’d run to their fall back and Sam and Dean had followed John to the one place they had close by that would help her.

Sam watched as John sank into her, watched as he stroked solid fingers over the fleshless metal skeleton. He watched as John leaned over her, lips pressing into hers, watched her open to John in every way.

Water sloshed around them, or at least the liquid compound that would attach to her flesh and make her look human again, but John didn’t care and neither did she. Dean had Sam against his back, naked and sated and ghosting his breath over his neck as they watched the other two.

They all took comfort where they could, where they needed. It wasn’t the metal skeleton underneath the flesh that mattered to them anymore. It was the fact that she was still there, still fighting, still at their side when one of her own came to kill. Sam took his comfort in his brother, who had come when Sam had turned white eyed and without a soul. Cameron came when her brethren fought them tooth and nail.

Comfort came in the strangest places. They all accepted it with the grace it was given.
