I know this is irritating, but to be fair LJ had to act fast to comply with the commonly-used whitelists of email providers, because people weren't getting their comment notifications. Then they were subjected to the ddos attacks. They haven't had an awful lot of time to sort this out and tell people, add to FAQ etc. It was all explained on the next newsletter after they took the action, and on the support boards pretty much immediately.

I would be the first to agree that LJ have problems and not the best customer communication in the world, but on this occasion I have some sympathy for them. They've had it rough lately and are still fighting off the DDOS attacks.

Yeah, I mainly reposted this (the whole chunk of text) because if I hadn't seen it on my flist, I would have missed it (being sort of absent lately), and it's good just to be aware of it. I don't mind when they need time to fiddle with it, but I really don't like that I always have to opt out of such new implementations. (Since I always forget where to find the settings.) They should post about it and give an opt-in heads up, instead.
