Maybe it's profound, but lately it's become a little too obvious in the people around me! I figure if it's obvious in them, it's going to be obvious in me too... and I really need to focus on better things.
Not only is this a wise and important insight, but it made me realize another connection between the Alice books and John Crowley's Little, Big. Remember that Alice is through the looking-glass, so it might seem she's doing the opposite of what she's really doing; this is true of Auberon Drinkwater and his little park, where to get out he must go further in.
I'm not sure how this applies to your insight, except that sometimes in real life you may think you're moving away from your goal, but you're really working towards it, or the reverse--but that makes the right goal more important, not less.
