Guys, Prince William is getting married!

I demand the strewning of bunting RIGHT NOW.

Lol. Kate Middleton is the future Queen of England. Or, you know, whatever title they negotiate for her.

So what's the general mood about them getting married? I knew they'd been together for a while, but I had no idea it was 8 years.

Kind of hard to say - they only announced it an hour ago.

Lol. I was on twitter and one of the news presenters I follow was all "... so Clarence House has announced William has proposed". Cue insanity. Plus BBC did a special news broadcast.

Well, as a dyed in the wool monarchist this news makes me happy! Though I'm curious by what you mean by 'whatever they negotiate for her'. Did you read something or was that just you speculating? According to precedence and protocol - she /should/ eventually be Queen Catherine (Good Queen Kate?) to our William V. Such fabulous, fabulous news!

Camilla should be a princess, really, but it's not happened. I don't think she will ever be a Queen either. I'd be hesitant to call Kate that until it actually happens. We might not even have a monarchy by the time Charles dies.

Hrm. Well they did cow to public opinion when they made her the Duchess of Cornwall instead of PoW - however as a divorcee she couldn't be Queen anyway. I was shocked they let Charles get away without dropping him from the line of succession- they've kicked plenty out for becoming a Catholic so even in this day and age they stick to a lot of the 'old' rules. As for a dissolution of the monarchy - I honestly can't see that happening, even with the rise of Republicanism and anti-monarchist feeling. I do think Charles' reign may bd looked at like a necessary evil to get to King William and Queen Catherine. Even here - they're our monarchy too and most people would say they don't care... But they wouldn't want to deal with the expense to truly cutting the monarchy out of our lives (removing her from our money and all the other random things that are touched by the Queen here). I can only imagine how impressed the still monarchist-friendly people in your country would react to a dissolution. It would be crazy. ;)

They could have made her PoW if they'd really wanted to. The fact that they didn't shows that public opinion does matter, and the grumblings about the monarchy have been getting louder. *shrugs* I just think that we can't say for certain what might happen in 30 years or so. William might decide that he doesn't even want to be king.

Me too! I'm sure I'll get fed up of the coverage pretty quickly, but I'm looking forward to it.

He'd better have Harry as best man!

I love Prince Harry.

I cannot wait to see her dress. It is sure to be epic (and compared to Diana's over and over, poor girl).

IKR? Harry would be perfect imagine the pictures.

It's so exciting. I mean, whatever you feel about the royal family there's something cool about the wedding... if you ignore the cost, anyway. All those people, the royals and foreign dignitaries all getting together, and the dress. The dress is the most important bit, lol.

I didn't know how to feel about the ring thing when I heard that he'd given her Diana's engagement ring, because of the expectation that goes with anything even remotely Diana connected. But hearing him talk about it he does seem really sincere about his reasons. Also it really suited her.
