The scene between Draco and Scorpius is an example of the characters having their own idea about how a scene was going to go; it was just supposed to be a quick chat, but Draco decided to talk.
It's funny. I have very little respect for Lucius, but I think his failures as a father are more to do with not knowing any better than neglect or abuse. (Then again, I have a father with unrealistic expectations even though I know he loves me, so it's a dynamic I understand.) But, yes, Draco was shocked by the mercy, and decided to prove he was worthy of it.
Thanks for your review! I'm happy you're still enjoying the story (even if it is taking forever to write.)

And I like the perspective you give Lucius - particularly in bringing your own experiences into your understanding of his character.
Your story reminds me of my Dad's mother. Daddy has his master's degree and was a college professor - the first one in his family to ever graduate college for as many generations back as we can trace. And yet, to this day his mother still bemoans the fact that he didn't go to Vietnam, because she always wanted to brag to her friends that she had a son in uniform. *head-desk* I am constantly flabbergasted by her foolish wishes in that regard - to have WANTED her son to go to Vietnam in order to make HER proud! Never mind the risk to his own life.
Until you brought up this concept of ignorance and expectations, I hadn't really thought about it, but I can see Lucius in my grandmother's behavior.

"(It's probably not terribly important to this story, but I thought Ginny preferred being Chaser, so I'd think that would have been her professional position.) We're going to go see DH tomorrow at a special press screening (my husband is a movie critic), and I meant to be re-reading Book 7 in anticipation of that. But as I was reading the chapters with Harry and Dudley, I found I was more in the mood to re-read this instead. *g* So thanks again for all the fun your story brings me ( ... )

You're more than welcome to friend. I'm mostly writing Doctor Who, Torchwood and Sherlock stories, but that can change at any time.
