...does PJ ever intend to release a picture of Thranduil?

Pic 4: Not the only one, but one of the few...I don't think he pulls off "ageless, neither young nor old". He looks old...

Even if Galadriel is not supposed to be in the movie, I love her so much. <3

I'm still waiting on Radagast (though maybe it would be cooler to not see some of the more obscure characters til one is actually watching the films, I dunno).

Well, he doesn't look young to me, but he doesn't precisely look old to me either. Heh, guess he passes that litmus test too in my mind. X)

Personally I have no problem with adding characters such as Galadriel and Saruman who were not there in The Hobbit book, because we know from other bits of canon that they were active in events that took place at the same time as those of The Hobbit's plot. Seems legit to me, and I must say I highly encourage it in fact, since the White Council and Dol Guldur involve all my favorite characters.

To me, there's a big difference between adding stuff that wasn't in the book but that we know did occur, and adding stuff that was not in the book and -never- occurred. An example of the latter that irks me is in the Two Towers film, where Aragorn falls off a cliff and gets woken up by his horse--It's like, why?!

I want to be warned, so I don't randomly start throwing a fit in the middle of the movie when Thranduil looks awful. I don't trust PJ, especially after most of the main elves from the last movies.

Lol, it's all a matter of opinion, I suppose. I just think he looks old.

I have a problem with how they're going about doing it, not the characters. I mean, Christopher Lee and Ian McKellen are the only reasons I'm going to see the Hobbit, at this moment. But I have the feeling that PJ is going to do in a non-Tolkien manner, if that makes sense. I haven't trusted him with this movie since I saw the dwarf with the hammer sticking out of his head.

I'm always too busy weeping at the portrayal of Faramir to pay attention to Aragorn. ;p

The distrust is understandable. I thought many of the characters from the films were well cast and looked right, but others totally did not: Faramir certainly comes to mind as a completely butchered character, I agree. Everything about him was wrong--looks, deeds, personality, etc.

I mean, Christopher Lee and Ian McKellen are the only reasons I'm going to see the Hobbit, at this moment.

And good reasons. =D Given my obsession with wizards and my incessant crushes on both of the aforesaid actors, they're what I'm most looking forward to.

For some reason I'm perhaps overly optimistic about the Hobbit films, which is kinda funny since I can no longer watch the second two LotR films without cussing them out (I find Fellowship the film to be more tolerable). A bit wary that the Dwarves might be too comic, yes, but then again the 'far over the Misty Mountains cold' song seems to take them seriously..

I second the Thranduil thing. I want to see that Pushing Daisies guy in a blonde wig dammit!

Sorry to disappoint, but I am one of the many to have a problem with his hairline. And general face. And everything. He just doesn't do the "kind as summer" thing for me. Nor the neither old or young. More of a "middle aged hippie in Vulcan robes with a Neverending Story crown" vibe. Plus, he's supposed to be, oh I don't, tall and pretty imposing looking from both the his Numenorean and Elvish sides - I don't think he looks that way at all. The only imposing thing about him is that eyebrow raise thing. Which once again reminds me of Vulcans. It was basically Spock's only real expression of emotion. Ahem. Yes. Will stop now. xD

I do find the dwarves rather adorable so far. :D

LOL, poor Receeding Hairline Elrond, nobody likes him. D=
"Kind as summer," damn, I forgot about that one. Well, I'll chalk that up to he doesn't -act- kind as summer. I mean, I'm sure a person who looked like that could act kind as summer if he really wanted to, since appearance doesn't dictate personality. Um, yeah, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

A few of the Dwarves are a bit too comical-looking for me, and I don't approve of pretty-boy Kili (Fili? whatever), but overall I quite like them. They're all distinctive-looking, which is important when dealing with a mob of 13 characters.

I'm no fan of Kili either (where's the beard?!) and they don't look one bit like how I pictured them. My initial reaction was Outraged Tolkien Purist, at which point I stopped myself b/c it sounded ridiculous even to me ("they are supposed to have coloured caps with bells goddammit raaaghhh!!!!")...and now I even like them. I suppose I calmed down and gt used to it. Or something like that. Bombur reminds me of Obelix. <3

Eh, I suppose so. But I think it was abut appearances. Bilbo's description seemed to be about how he looked kind as summer which I interpret as a kind of warm peaceful, personality, not Vulcan eyebrow snark. Oh well.

It is Not Okay for Kili to not have a beard. Even if one were to argue that he's really young, Dwarves are so vain of their beards that I would think that indicates it's standard to have them by the time one is grown up.

..at which point I stopped myself b/c it sounded ridiculous even to me ("they are supposed to have coloured caps with bells goddammit raaaghhh!!!!")

LMAO. Part of me still thinks they could have kept the colors, but then from what I understand Tolkien may not have cared to portray them so simplistically outside the simplistic context of The Hobbit anyway...

Perhaps I unconsciously interpret kind summers as involving Vulcan eyebrow smirks. Cause I mean, that would be cool to have Vulcans around in the summer. Cooler than this person who just accosted me..
