Yeah, but short of a few others, he's also invested more into being Robin. He's burned all his other bridges to be here, so the only thing he can do is push himself. I fear for him, really, when Bruce gets back.
I think he’ll be ok, he’s got Dick at his back so as long as Dick doesn’t freak out (good luck) it’ll be ok. Tim’s back too and now that Damian’s mellowed out a bit hopefully they’ll get on a bit better.
I guess I just wanna see all the Robin’s happy together. (Optimist I guess.) Failing that I guess we have this forum here to write or rewrite the world in our own ways.
Poor Damian. I just love how he always tries to pretend he's self sufficient, but deep down he needs a hug just as much as any Robin. Luckily Dick!Bats will give him a little praise and affection.
I think my favourite part of the ending is where he asks himself if Dick is taller. When this part of the scene popped in my head I remembered when Damian first met Bruce, 'I expected you to be taller'. And then he sees a bit of what he expected his father to be in Dick, and I gave a fangirlish squee.
I don't think Bruce could ever live up to Damian's expectations, in part because Damian has such high expectations of himself and others. And Bruce is a lot, but Damian will always find the flaws in him. But I think, because he expects much less of Dick (and in turn, he also expects more in a way, but that's embracing Damian's paradoxical nature a bit too much and hard to explain) that he CAN find some level of happiness with Dick. (I say, a father/older brother figure, you say a lover, I believe. I'm asexual, so I like to keep things gen. Romance is boring.)
If he was Nightwing's student, I would name him Rook. He can even keep the R! He'd just have to go with darker colours, not that he'd mind.
Dick can be more to Damian I think because damian has fewer preconceptions - Dick is always going to exceed his expectations rather than fall short of them.
I think Damian has higher expectations of Dick in terms of being Batman, Dick has to be better than Bruce, which ... I don't think Dick can ever do, Dick can't be Bruce, he will make a great Batman, but it will be a different Batman. However, in terms of Dick, he has much lower expectations, I agree. We can already see that in the comics, Damian's beginning to respect Dick.
I tend to find most gen boring...I like the focus sexual tension can give a storyI almost think we are talking about the same thing, in a way. I do not believe that because I am asexual, that the characters I write or read are completely divorced from their sexuality as well. Sexual tension is an inherent part of group dynamics, and I do enjoy playing with that. I simply dislike smut (boring to me) and romance (boy/girl meets boy/girl and otp happens, culminating in a hea - that's so unrealistic it's boring

Wow, that was just so wonderfully perfect! You've captured Damian's character brilliantly, loved it! <33
I think this was my favourite bit: He was not well suited to the usual herding and cat and mouse games that Grayson liked to play, he was more a point and shoot type. It was simple, it was understood, it was gloriously rewarding. Eee, I just love that last line!
Imma stalk friend you and patiently wait for MORE <333333333
I've just started on making this a two shot, having the second chapter being from Dick's point of view. I blame you, having expectations, feeding my ego.
I'm mildly terrified. It's much slower going than this one (this whole chapter took about an hour - I've spent about that much time on one paragraph of the second chapter). Why do adults have to be so complicated?
