i usually throw tact out the window when i talk to friends. i assume certain things and question certain things, because i want to know how the people i care about feel. sometimes the things i say are on target and other times they can be completely off base. sometimes the things i say can initiate a conversation and bring me closer to someone, and ( Read more... )

you should never throw tact out of any conversation, especially with friends and people you care about. AND never assume anything either. that almost always leads to trouble.

i think you do that a lot and though it may be coming from a good place, it's hard to be on the receiving end. sometimes it pays off to just be a good listener and keep your opinions to yourself. just a word to the wise..

so while we're all throwing our $0.02 around, i will be frank:
you come off a lot like you're trying to bring people down. you very well may be bringing up a subject because you care about someone and want to help them with it...
but most of the time when there is something shitty, people don't want to chat about it. And if it's really not so shitty, to harp on it just sounds like you want it to be that bad. and that just weirds people out.

at the wedding i was talking about how i haven't smoked a cigarette in 1.5 years. i've become used to the non-smoking laws in ct and new york, and was having a hard time being around so much smoke in the bars in chicago.
"but what is it that you are left out of because you don't smoke?" you asked me.
i told you, "nothing...most people i am friends with don't smoke...etc."
i don't know if you remember, but you asked me again, like the answer i gave you wasn't enough.
it felt like you were trying to give me something to miss - to bring me down. it wasn't a nice feeling ( ... )
