Five years into the future, after winning just about every conceivable award there is out there and becoming famous worldwide, Dong Bang Shin Ki decide it is time to take a long-deserved break.

Changmin heads back into school; Yunho and Jaejoong enter the army together (as clerks, since their injuries mean they aren't fit for combat situations).

Yoochun goes back to America for a visit, and Junsu, alone in Korea, must consider what he values most in his life. -bel_chan

The music industry isn't a job, it's a lifestyle. JunSu didn't realize that until he woke up one morning, at five thirty, only to remember that he didn't have to do anything. Nothing. His entire day was free. Heck, his entire week was free, so why, exactly, couldn't he sleep in until noon like any decent guy in his mid twenties with nothing to do. With a sigh and entire army of grumpy thoughts, JunSu rolled out of bed and tip-toed into the kitchen.

There weren't four brothers in ten feet that he didn't want to rouse… There wasn't a mid-morning interview to prep for, there was nothing but a kitchen waiting to be used for breakfast.

He dropped a bowl of rice from the freezer onto the counter before digging through his cupboards for a Teflon pan to fry some eggs, maybe a piece of fish, something for breakfast in. It was a simple half meal. He didn't feel like washing more than one bowl and one plate and, really, after years of diets, he couldn't eat much more if he tried.

JaeJoong and YoonHo'd called the day before to check in and try to tease JunSu into doing something active, but he didn't have the will for it. ChangMin called three days before and commented, all in a rush, that JunSu should do something with his life now that he had so much free time and wasn't his new apartment next to a soccer field? Maybe he could sign up with a local team if he could convince them he was just a celebrity impersonator…

JunSu didn't think about the last time YooChun called because YooChun didn't even call once. The thing JunSu heard from YooChun was his "See ya in a few months, JunSuyah," at the airport half an hour before his flight back to the States and that itself was two months prior.

But then again, family came before friendship, even if that blood which was supposedly thicker than water was dripping out of JunSu's heart into the rest of his chest.

The truth of the situation was, at the beginning of their break, right after ChangMin enrolled in university full-time, but before JaeJoong and YoonHo left for the army, YooChun went to get another tattoo. One on his left ankle that only five people would understand. He paced anxiously, dying to show JunSu, but he wanted everyone else away before they started their private life together. Sure, their friends would be a major part in the rest of their lives, but that didn't mean YooChun wanted to share his symbol just yet.

But YooChun missed the going away dinner. While fixing his hair in the mirror an hour before, a wave of nausea brought him to his knees and a burning pain in his ankle curled him into a fetal position. When he peeled the bandages off to reveal the shining, red tattoo, the pieces fell together into an ugly puzzle.

JaeJoong and YoonHo hyung would forgive him for missing their party if he had hepatitis… It too bad he had HIV that was rapidly progressing into full-scale AIDS.

The life of a popstar leaves behind a certain amount of pride, so YooChun couldn't tell JunSu the truth, but his friend knew him too well to believe a lie. He did want to see his parents, but that was only half the reason he went back to America, so it was only half a lie that he had to tell JunSu.

*****

JunSu spent another month waiting for the phone call that would never come; he sent countless emails, but there was no way for JunSu to know where YooChun was staying at that point or how to contact him. He spent a week crying before he called JaeJoong and YoonHo and ChangMin to tell them about his decision. He spent a day staring at the wall of the SM building waiting to speak with Lee SooMan and he spent one second waffling over whether or not he should sign the solo contract.

*****

Hooked up to a jungle of wires and machines, YooChun could barely see the television airing… The debut? Of… Someone he couldn't make out from the tiny screen. Suddenly, he felt the need to know what was on the screen. He knew it would probably be… He pushed buttons on the machines until they turned black and stopped the infernal beeping. Everything quieted just in time for the miniscule person on stage to begin his song.

*****

It was too late when the nurses sprinted into the room.

JunSu was already walking off stage.
