Fish Bait Chapter 1

Jul 23, 2008 21:26

Shim Changmin was a carefree seventeen year old high school student born and raised in Seoul. He enjoyed life and all of its earthly delights. His favorite delight out of all them happened to be food. Changmin had a strange adhesion to delicious food of any type. Offer him any meal, and he's there within the blink of an eye. Today, his umma had packed him a large bento that he carried like a treasure box in his hand. He whistled happily as he walked to school with the bento box swinging in one hand.

"Ooof!" He yelped when a man ran into him from behind, "Yah! Watch where you're going!" He straightened out his uniform and scowled at the man who was now running full speed ahead. He blinked once and spotted the familiar sight of his bento box in the culprit's hand. "YAH! COME BACK! THIEF!!!" He screamed at the top of his lungs and dashed after him.

Junsu shot up. Looking left, looking right hearing his familiar call. He ripped off his clothes which exposed the light blue spandex-like uniform and the infamous trademark - "DB".

"AHHH" he let out his dolphin screech, "DolphinBoy is here, where no man has gone before!" and dashed out the door. Flying over buildings and under bridges he saw the tall helpless boy on the ground and a few feet away lay his culprint. He called on the H2O and snatched the bento from the enemy just in time before the water hit him and blew him away.

"EU KYANG KYANG" Junsu shouted. Letting the world know he's done it again.

"Here you go, sir" he handed the boy his bento box brand new. Junsu winked and dashed off again. As always leaving behind a small fish bait with an insignia of "DB".

Changmin blinked once and twice and three times before he came to terms with the fact that a man clad in blue spandex had just popped out of nowhere and helped him get back his bento box. To top it off, he controlled water like one of the Avatars from his favorite childhood cartoon. He smacked himself twice in the face to make sure that he wasn't dreaming.

Picking up the fish bait left by this so-called superhero, he wondered what in the world "DB" stood for. He placed the item into his pocket and continued walking to school. Throughout the entire day, he couldn't stop thinking about his savior. I have to see him again, Changmin told himself, But how?

---

Changmin flipped through the pages of his textbook lazily when the sound of a familiar laugh caught his attention.

Junsu walked casually out of the bathroom whistling an unfamiliar tune. ‘Ahh, finally! Last class!’ He thought. He walked in and noticed the same tall boy he helped earlier sitting right by the teacher. ‘Oh god, I hope he doesn’t -‘

“YAH! KIM JUNSU! What the hell are you staring at!?” Shouted one of his friends from the back of the room. He made his way quietly towards him.
“Eu kyang kyang” he let out a shy giggle as he took his usual seat at the far back corner. He scratched his face nervously hoping the boy in front wouldn’t see him.

“What’s wrong with you today?” his friend whispered half way through the class. Junsu jumped at his friend’s sudden intrusion.

“Oh um, nothing. Test. Passed? Maybe. Hopefully.” was all he managed. Ignoring the weird looks from his friend. He eventually settled down and got through the rest of the class. As soon as the bell rang, he rushed out with all his friends not noticing he had dropped something in the hallway - his souvenir.

---

Changmin had his attention fixed on the other boy. He also told himself that it could've just been a coincidence. Anyone can have that laugh, he told himself. The boy rushed out of the room before any of the other students. Changmin wondered why, so he followed him quietly. As he made his way down the hall, he stepped onto something soft. Glancing down, he picked up the souvenir that looked exactly the same as the one left by his savior. He pulled out the one in his pocket and compared it to the one in his hand. They were unmistakably identical.

Changmin looked up and down the hall, but there were too many students. Each of them were walking and chatting casually with one another. ‘Suspicious…too suspicious…” he pondered and stuffed the second piece of souvenir in his pocket.

That night, he laid awake trying to devise a plan so he could meet this superhero again. And this time, he must speak with him.

“Jaejoong-ah, pleaseeee,” Changmin begged his best friend, “Just help me this one time. I’ll forever be indebted.”

“Aish! Min-ah! It’s not that I don’t want to help you, it’s just…strange! Tell me again why the hell you’re making me do this?” The older boy demanded.

“I want to see that superhero…person…guy…thing…again!” Changmin tried to explain and could already feel the blush creeping up his face when Jaejoong frowned at him incredulously, “I’m telling you it’s real! Just…help me with this…and you’ll see!”

Jaejoong sighed and rolled his eyes, “Alright, my boy, just because you’re Shim Changmin that I’m willing to do this for you. So, what’s the plan again?”

Changmin grinned from ear to ear and whispered the plans of action into his best friend’s ear.

---

Phew. He wiped his dry forehead as if he was sweating buckets. He threw himself on his water bed still in his superhero suit. He leaned over and spotted his clock. 10:43pm.

“And I still have homework.” Junsu mumbled as his best friend walked out of the shower.

“What?”

“Nothing. Saving the world is tough.” he rolled over with his back facing Yoochun. He got comfortable.

“YAH!” Yoochun bugged Junsu, “Get up. Shower, you stink. And you do your homework.”

“So much for you to say, dropout.”

“At least I’m making a living and agreed to help you pay half the rent here!” Chun shot back.

“..Uhh, I love you?” Junsu joked.

“Whatever. Go shower!” Yoochun smiled. He knew anything was better than living with his parents.

Junsu got up, grabbed his clothes and headed for the shower. He loved the water, after all he is DolphinBoy. “Ahh!” He sounded his distinct call. He made himself laugh.

He jumped from his bed, startling a very angry Yoochun. He rubbed his eyes and off he was again, “DolphinBoy; where no man has gone before!”

“Aish, do you always have to say that.” Yoochun stated as Junsu took off once again.

---

“What if I get hurt?” Jaejoong whined.

“What? Since when did the fearless Kim Jaejoong turn into a chicken?” Changmin snorted as he fixed his friend’s disguise.

“I’m not a chicken!” Jaejoong snapped back and yelped when the younger boy pinched his skin.

“Sorry,” Changmin apologized quickly, “Then, don’t worry about it, Hyung. He only shoots out water at you. I doubt it’d get that bad.”

Jaejoong nodded thoughtfully and stared at his best friend interestedly. “You like him or something, Min?” He asked suddenly.

Changmin stopped what he was doing and looked up at him with a frown, “No! What the heck, Jae! I’m just…curious…that’s…all…”

“Uh huh…” Jaejoong responded insincerely, “From the descriptions you gave me, it’d be a wonder if you start liking someone as ridiculous as that.”

Changmin nodded but didn’t say a word until he finished arranging Jaejoong’s soon to be disguise, “Done! Yes! Now we’re ready!”

Jaejoong stared at himself in the mirror. He looked like the Grim Reaper minus the death scythe. He pulled back the hood and turned round and round in front of the mirror. “This is horrendous,” he stated flatly.

“Aish! It’s alright! You look just like his arch villain!” Changmin said cheerfully and patted his friend’s back.

---

The next day

“Help! Help!” Changmin screamed as loud as he could in an empty but narrow alley, “Somebody help!”

Jaejoong sighed and held his “victim’s” neck loosely. This earned him a frown from the younger boy, so he squeezed it tighter without cutting off Changmin’s circulation all together.

The “villain” and his “helpless victim” held up their act and hoped that the mysterious superhero would come.

---

Junsu yawned and shook himself awake as he swept through the city.
"YAH!!" He screeched, "What do you think you're doing!?" Junsu, DolphinBoy to be exact, wasted no time when someone's life was in need.

Junsu raised his arms and all seven seas seemed to rise with him. The villain-like Grim Reaper stood facing the blue speck in the sky.

"OOHHHHHHAAAAAHHHH!!!!!" Jaejoong started screaming, his knees too weak to move. The water came crashing down with such force and perfect aim. The Grim Reaper nearly drowned but Junsu knew something was fishy so he let the force of waves knock him out instead. He had so much control over the water that it mysteriously drained from the alley. He saw the tall kid open his eyes and checked his clothes-all dry.

Changmin looked at the villain and then in the sky for a glimpse of his hero, but all he found was the fish bait resting perfectly on his friend's chest.

From afar, Junsu saw the kid run out of the alley chasing after him, but he was too fast for his citizen's eyes.

---

Junsu succumbed into his shared apartment and situated himself in front of the TV. He let his thoughts run. That kid is either really prone to bad luck or something is going on. Whatever it was, it sure was giving him more of a workout than a usual day saving the world. He let the TV relax him and drifted off into a pleasant slumber.

Yoochun came home from work to a sprawled out Junsu half dead on his couch.
Cough cough.

"What the hell!?!?" Junsu shot up.

"I don't know. You looked a bit, dehydrated there." Yoochun laughed.

"I'm just tired! There's this kid who's been in trouble lately."

"Oh, really? Is he good looking?" Yoochun cocked his eyebrow up and threw on a sexy smile.

"YAH! How should I know!? You're the gay one," Junsu teased.

"Shut up," Yoochun lost his pride. No one but Junsu knew about this just yet. "So, what about this kid?" He asked seriously this time.

"I had to help him twice already. I have never EVER had to rescue someone more than once!" Junsu bit his lip and scrunched his eyebrows together.

"Hmm…" Yoochun copied Junsu's actions.

"Maybe it's a just a coincidence, right Chun?"

---

“Yah! Jaejoong-ah! Wake up!” Changmin said urgently as he slapped his friend’s face gently to wake him.

Jaejoong groaned and tossed from side to side before opening his tired eyes, “Wha…wha…what happened?”

“He came!” Changmin exclaimed excitedly, “And…and…he did all those crazy stuffs again! I WASN’T delusional, Hyung!” He stood up and jumped up and down in one place while the “Grim Reaper” was trying his best to get up.

“This is seriously like something out of a wacky comic book,” Jaejoong muttered and looked at himself, “I freaking look like something that came out of a comic book!” He quickly became disgusted with what he was wearing so he shook off the long robes to reveal a naked upperbody and tight ripped jeans. During his process of undressing, he noticed something small was on top of his disguise the whole time. But before he had the chance to pick it up and see for himself, Changmin was one step ahead of him and snatched it off the ground.

“Another one!” His dongsaeng said breathlessly and placed it neatly in his pocket.

“What the hell was that?” Jaejoong demanded.

“A souvenir that he always leave after rescuing someone,” Changmin explained, “It’s my third one now.”

“Third? You’ve been into trouble three times? I thought this was your second time seeing that weirdo,” the older boy questioned.

Changmin nodded and picked up Jaejoong’s fallen robe. He began walking out of the alley with his best friend right behind him, “I found one at school too, Jae. I don’t know who it belonged to, but it was dropped on the floor.”

“Do you think your superhero is a student at our school?” Jaejoong inquired. He tried to ignore the perverted looks and pointing fingers of people passing by him. He knew his sexiness was irresistible, but he was also the famous the Ice King at their school.

“I’m not sure…” Changmin mumbled as his thoughts drifted back to that strange boy whose laugh resembled his hero, “Maybe…or…someone who was rescued by him could also carry around the souvenir.”

“Could be. You wanna find out?” Jaejoong sped up his pace to meet Changmin’s wide steps due to his long legs.

Changmin stopped walking and stared hard at his hyung.

“What?” The older boy’s arms subconsciously wrapped themselves around his chest under Changmin’s intense gaze.

“Yes, I want to find out. And…I think I know how…” Changmin’s eyes twinkled and his lips curved up into a devious smile.

Jaejoong could feel goosebumps rising all over his body as he observed his best friend. “Yah! Whatever it is! Leave me out of it!” He warned him and started walking away.

“Aww…come one, Joongie-poo. Don’t be mean like that…!” Changmin begged cutely and trotted after his friend.

“I TOLD YOU NEVER TO CALL ME THAT, SHIM CHANGMIN!” Jaejoong roared with a reddened face.

“Joongie poo! Joongie poo! Help me or I’ll keep calling you Joongie poo!” The younger boy squeaked loudly, making sure everyone they passed by could hear them.

Jaejoong muttered curses but knew he had no way out. Damn you, Changmin.
