It’s remarkable the things he lets Junsu talk him into. Changmin rubs at his cold nose with a gloved hand, each time he does convinced there will be an icicle on the tip like in the demented Christmas specials Junsu insists they watch. Huddled in his coat, he whines at the other man from across the lawn.

“Hyung, it’s too cold,” he complains, milking the role of the baby for all it’s worth. But while it may work with Jaejoong, who’d tie his scarf around Changmin’s neck, or Yunho, who would tell Junsu to quit horsing around and get inside by the fire, it has no effect on the other singer.

While Junsu has him in years, he’s an infinitely younger soul in comparison.

Changmin’s about to try again regardless when a handful of cold slush hits his cheek, Junsu’s trademark laughter ringing out in the still winter air. The youngest stands stunned for a single, fleeting moment, before letting out a battle cry and tearing after Junsu through the yard, flinging handfuls of wet snow till he’s out of breath with laughter.

He finally catches up to his lover when the other man slips, taking Changmin down with him into the failed remains of a snowman.

Junsu taps his cold nose with a finger, declaring him ‘Rudolph’ in fractured English and bursting into peels of laughter when Changmin presses butterfly kisses on flushed cheeks.

Junsu doesn’t know what it is about Yunho that allows the other boy to fit so effortlessly in his space. What makes his sleeping bag on the floor seem as natural as Junho’s bed pressed up against the wall. His trainers lined up neatly outside the door as much a fixture as Junsu’s dirty clothes tossed in a corner.

He calls them brothers, grin wide and welcoming and Yunho looks uncertain, but pleased nonetheless. He stops following Junsu through the house like a lost puppy. He lets his guard down and laughs openly at Mr. Kim’s jokes, helps Junsu hide his twin’s belongings throughout the house and drags Junsu into a hiding place when Junho comes looking for them.

Brothers, Junsu tells him, eyes bright as Yunho presses a hand over his mouth, keeping him quiet as Junho bangs through the house.

Best friends, Yunho says instead, replacing his hand in favor of his lips and Junsu can’t help but think that’s even better.

It must have been something he ate, they grudgingly agree, staring down at him and scratching their heads. He has such a voracious appetite, who knows what he puts in his mouth without even looking?

Like the button he’s just picked up off the floor, for example.

“Minnie-ah!” Jaejoong exclaims, fluttering his hands and hurrying to scoop up the errant three year old, prying the button out of his mouth and ignoring the snickers behind him when Changmin closes sharp little baby teeth on his finger.

Jaejoong swears and Min starts to cry and it’s going to be a very long day.

The other three, as it turns out, are absolutely no help at all.

Yoochun begs off, saying children don’t like him, so sorry, wish he could help, and locks himself in his workroom. Junsu is slightly more willing, until Changmin hits him with a block and leaves him sulking towards his room. Yunho is well-meaning, but clueless and Jaejoong eventually decides having help isn’t worth the headache of Yunho’s continual questions.

That easily, he’s left alone with the group’s baby, who is now quite literally…a baby.

And an unhappy one at that.

“Tteok,” Changmin declares, pounding little fists on the table.

Jaejoong sighs, rubbing his temple, silently hating each and every person who ever declared him the band umma.

“Minnie-ah, love, I told you, I don’t have the ingredients to make tteok. Do you want a sweet instead?”

A spoon whizzes by his head.

“Tteok!” Changmin shrieks and starts to wail, refusing to be consoled until Jaejoong puts on Yoochun’s floppy dog ears and sings Balloons in the squeakiest voice he can manage. The little boy gives him a gap-toothed grin, taking Jaejoong’s cheeks between chubby hands and laughing.

Something squeezes in Jaejoong’s chest and he starts to think maybe this won’t be so bad after all.
