Super-Fam Meetup, Post #2

Oct 13, 2012 15:39

It has been brought to my attention by athenesolon that the 2013 Superman Celebration in Metropolis, IL is being held June 6-9, not the week of the June 14 Man of Steel premiere, as I hoped.

So if we were to still meetup for the movie on June 14, where should we do that?

I hope we can narrow something down by the end of 2012. :)

With some occupational shuffling, it might end up being a little interesting doing it, but we're still on for next summer. Really don't want to miss out on any of you!

I also still say Metropolis because it's a little more fair for those of us that have to travel regardless and it's a place that actually means something.

ETA: Also, despite the money it would save me, NOT in the South. It's just too hot here that time of year. Too miserable. We ought to try Kansas some other time, though. ;)

I'm sort of holding out hope that they hold a special advanced screening during the Celebration! But they'd have to announce it way in advance so we could make plans.

Kansas is a neat idea even for this event. I wonder which city would work? *ponders*

Right, exactly. And they very well might, knowing that they do do things like that at the Celebration. *crosses fingers*

I might not go to the screening myself [I'm honestly not as excited about that part of it. If you guys tell me that you enjoyed it, I'll end up seeing MoS. That said, all of you should have the chance to watch it.]

I thought so, too, but I'm not even sure where we'd look at. We passed close to it on the way back from New Mexico last year and I was pretty enchanted with the region. But where we'd do it there? Not a clue.

TBH, I'm not sure where in Metropolis they'd do it. Apparently the only theater in town is in the process of being restored (it HAD been a condemmed shell so I'm not as worried on that count) so I'm not really expecting that. In the past the fanvid screening's always been held in a community center of some sort and any of the movie screenings are held out on the public square. That'd make it (to me) unlikely that they'd do that, sadly. At the same time there's likely to be a lot of talk.

I could see Kansas City (even though that's both Missouri AND Kansas.) It's really neat (my brother lives and works out there) although I have to say it's not really pedestrian/mass-transit friendly. I'm not sure if Witchita or the other Kansas towns would be that great for me travel-wise.

My personal vote? Chicago or Saint Louis (I'll admit to being biased on St. Louis seeing as it's where I grew up.)

I'd prefer the West if we're going to watch the MoS premiere. I'm not positive if I'll have enough cash to go to Metropolis, IL but would really like to.

ETA: Um, I meant to also ticky Metropolis, IL. Sorry!

Which is the opposite here. And I wanna see you again!

YUS! Sometimes, this continent is too continent-y.

Completely agreed! We should do something about this!

*once again plots to take her and hers up to Canada so this is never going to be a problem again*

I swear, it should be a law that Super-fans should have their own cities and free transport via air within those cities. None of this being too-far-apart business!

I tapped both Metropolis, IL and Midwest but I'm slightly more on the Midwest as it would mean actually getting away on a trip (Metropolis is close enough that I'd probably just drive there and then head home as it's a daytrip for me.)

Midwest is best for me, too, but I can swing an overnight or two a bit farther away.

As much as I'd love to do the meet-up, unless it's somewhere within a 10-hour drive time of me (northern Va), I doubt I'll be able to attend. :( Which just sucks, b/c I'd been looking forward to doing a meet-up with everyone.

Bitch, I will find a way for it to happen if I have to drive up and throw you in the damn rental car! *points finger* [And you know that was meant with love.]

E, if we can go, we'll work out a plan. If we have to come up there, get you, and then head out, then we'll figure something out.

WE GO, YOU GO.

*clings back* You enormous dork.

I told you when this first got brought up that we'd work something out. We have plenty of time. I need to see what Laurel's thinking, too. Like I said, if we can afford to go, we'll see how we can manage you.

It wouldn't be a meet-up without my girls.

I picked "other" because I have no preference where we meet, but I would rather it be for the movie.

It's definitely for the movie on June 14 (unless the Celebration does a screening the week before). Whatever else will happen will be planned after we have a location! :)
