Bring Routh Back campaign

Aug 26, 2008 20:06

At the behest of teh_pariah, I'm advertising this campaign:

On The Planet, or more specifically BR.C, fans of Superman Returns have begun a letter and email campaign to WB express their support of Brandon Routh, and their wish that he keep the role. I want to spread this message as far and wide as possible, especially here on LiveJournal where I know there ( Read more... )

I have to say I am a little disturbed with these plans of WB.....I mean, it's one thing to reboot the franchise, so to speak, but some of the ideals are a little disconcerting. I think WB is seeing too many $$$ after the success of the Batman reboot and they could very easily screw this up.

As for Brandon - I thought he was great as the Blue Boy Scout, and no matter what happens with a movie, I think he should have the role.

I agree, the execs seem to have a one-size-fits-all idea about what makes a sequel successful. I guess only the bombing of this darker version would convince them. But sadly, it would probably mean no more Superman movies for a while. :(

I still have hope that it's too early to really know what will happen.

I think Brandon should get another chance, too. :)

Argh, movie execs! One would think they'd never watched a movie in their lives!

They are doing the usual Hollywood thing: dark, brooding Batman cleans up at the box office, so they must make noises about a 'darker' Superman. Of course, Superman isn't Batman and is supposed to be a ray of hope!

As for blaming Brandon for poor box office of the first movie, he was an unknown actor who followed the director's instructions and played Superman that way.

Which I happened to like, BTW. I liked the quiet, understated Superman. I figured after so many years cooped up in the Fortress and then five years in space, he'd be more reserved than comics or even SV Clark/Superman.

Eh, WB gives me hives! They've got the more recognizable comics characters and yet Marvel's way out in front in this race!

Bleah!

And let's not forget that "dark, brooding Spider-Man" was such a hit. Not. If the darkness doesn't fit the character, it shouldn't be on the table.

I liked Brandon, too, and his portrayal fit the tone Singer wanted.

I'm really torn sometimes with happiness for Marvel (which holds a slightly higher place in my heart) and disappointment with WB (who owns the rights to many other favorite characters).

Dear internet fans,

We appreciate your input. Really we do. However, the incredible blockbuster success of The Dark Knight has been a license to mint money. I mean, Jesus Christ! We're rollin' in the stuff and it ain't stopped yet!

So. Needless to say, being movie executives, we want MORE OF THE SAME. More of the same thing that made The Dark Knight such a colossal success at the movie theatres. And clearly the key ingredient in the success of The Dark Knight is the darkness.

Hence, all previous plans for movies starring Superman or Wonder Woman have been scrapped. We are retooling our entire stable of DC Comics characters in a new, contemporary, darker direction. It's a sure-fire, can't-miss guarantee of big bucks at the box office ( ... )

LOL.

The problem comes that the WB execs don't realize how laughable it is...

Thanks for the smile. :)

This is great stuff, sinanju!

Unfortunately, it's really the way they think! ;)

If SR failed to live up to expectations, I don't think that was Brandon's fault. Yes, I'm definitely not Kate Bosworth's biggest fan but to blame it not being a blockbuster hit on BR's shoulders is mean.

I liked his dorky Clark Kent persona and I honestly wished we could've gotten more Clark. That's one of the biggest things that disappointed ME ... the lack of Clois interaction.

While I prefer Tom Welling as an actor, I think that replacing BR is really pointless. Sure, he was a newcomer then but he'll have experience for the sequel. I don't see how getting some other newbie will help.

The petition is a good idea. Good luck! :)

I agree -- none of this should be placed on Brandon's shoulders. He set the tone Singer wanted. I, too, loved his scenes as Clark and wanted much more.

*gasp* Absolutely! Without Brandon, there'll probably be no Richard either! Perhaps a note should be added to the postcards. :D

Oh, yes. And we all know what happened to James' character once Singer left the X-Men franchise... :O
