I'm not having a lot of tech luck lately. As if the low-tech meltdown of both cars and the furnace on Thanksgiving (now 2/3 fixed, and the other car should be back soon) wasn't enough, I'm now having a high-tech meltdown: my RAID-5 array with absolutely everything on it collapsed last weekend, and just this evening my Xbox 360 RROD'd. I hadn't seen the dire predictions that NXE would cause more bricking, but I just noticed that some articles mention that the three-year extended warranty offer ended just before NXE went live? True? If so, that really sucks :(

I am so not impressed with how Microsoft has handled any of this.

No, the 3-year warranty on RROD is still good. It's just that three years from when the console was first sold has just past, so people who bought it immediately when it was released might be hosed. (Mine is only two years old; I've already put in the repair request online, and it showed no repair fee.) Also, strictly speaking, NXE was launched two days before the 3-year anniversary of the console launch, not after, though obviously this is not the sort of problem where a specific thing will cause immediate failure ( ... )

What's NXE? Also, as someone currently experiencing every disaster possible all at once, you have my sympathies.

"New Xbox Experience" - the big update a month or so ago that added avatars, Netflix, the new dashboard, etc.
