Hey! Say! JUMP - Myojo September 2020 (English Translation)

Jul 27, 2020 01:26

Coolness, fun, singing and dancing skills, and the occasional touch of charm... JUMP is improving that appeal day by day, but what we want to focus on this time is "cuteness"! JUMP's never fading cuteness is so destructive you'll want to take it with you everywhere!

Yamada Ryosuke

There's not a single millimetre of cuteness in me! I'm a shameless 27 year old (laughs). But I think there's a fine line between "cute" and "lacking an aura" the moment I wake up from my sleep. The moment I wake up, I look a little like I'm mumbling, like I'm in a manga. I'm so absent-minded that after drinking tea from a PET bottle while looking at my phone, I could mistakenly put my phone in the rubbish bin. Ah, but I'm confident I'm only cute when I'm wobbling around in that state while going to the bathroom to wash my face with my fringe up with the Minions headband I bought at Universal Studios Japan!

I'm such a guy, but when I was a child I was talented at being cute. It's said that newborn babies look like sumo wrestlers, right? But even back then I already had clear eyes and a well-rounded face. Even when I looked at my old photos that my dad sent recently, I was singing my own praises, saying "I had a well balanced face~" Now I know why my parents often tell me that I used to be so cute.

After the quarantine period, my nieces came over for the first time in a while. Before I knew it, they were both a little bigger and I was surprised! My sister's children weren't as shy as they used to be, so they were even cuter. When my sister's kids get a little older, I intend to get to know them better with a "toy gift attack". ♡

Chinen Yuri

If I had to pick someone cute, it would be Okura Tadashi-kun. He's a senpai and older, but there's something about him I can't ignore. It was a few years ago now, but after one of our shows, Matsumoto-kun (Jun), Okura-kun and a few of the members went out for dinner. But that day I had a bit of a headache. Then Okura-kun said to Matsumoto-kun, "I'll take Chinen home." And for some reason, as soon as we left the restaurant, he ran off happily... (laughs).
When I saw that, I was worried that if I let him out of my sight, he'd go away somewhere (laughs). Of course, he took me home after that.

For better or for worse, I'm told I'm cute no matter what I do~ I don't hate that in itself, not at all. But in the end, I'm happier when people tell me I'm cute when they see what's going on inside. For example... well, I don't think I'm basically cute, but sometimes I get weirdly excited, or I don't know why, but I'm having fun and laughing, something like that (laughs). There's nothing cute about what I have. I mean, I try to reduce my belongings as much as possible. I don't even carry cash, I pay for everything on my phone! I think Takaki is the cutest member of the group. He's very pure and honest. When we play a card game together, he will start smirking and it comes out in his face (laughs). That's what's so cute about it.

Nakajima Yuto

Recently, "Notoba wo Produce" has been reairing again, and I was happy to see Kamenashi-kun (Kazuya) caring for me. Even when I looked at myself, I thought I was cute, or at least I thought I was young and small~ But even so, the performance was good. I found it somewhat interesting and laughed at it. At the time, I thought of Kamenashi-kun as an older brother, and I think that kind of atmosphere came out in my acting. Now that I've grown up, I get teased a lot about my height. You know how on TV shows they often introduce us as "KAT-TUN and Hey! Say! JUMP!" That's when Kamenashi-kun often says to me, "Stand with your legs apart when you're standing next to me, okay?" (laughs).

I was given a realistic pizza-shaped eraser from my English teacher who's been looking after me. I think that's the cutest thing I have in my stationery (laughs). I think a lot of people in JUMP are basically cute. It goes without saying that Chinen is cute (laughs). He's cute no matter what he does. The funniest thing I saw the other day was Dai-chan! At first, Takaki-kun and Dai-chan were talking, then a few others joined the conversation. And I don't remember what the word was, but it was a technical term, and Dai-chan said, "You don't know what that is?" and he started going against us (laughs). Then Takaki-kun grilled him and said, "I just learned it now," and the exchange was cute.

Yaotome Hikaru

Babies are so cute, not just people and animals. I search for videos of baby animals on the Internet and find them soothing. I once met a baby penguin when I was on location for a TV show. They were different from their parents, and their fur was fluffy and their looks alone were adorable, but their behavior was worse. The baby penguin was so small that I had to squat down to get eye contact with him, and he would come running in between my legs and snuggle up to where he fit. It was so cute, I was shaking (laughs). The baby manatees I saw at the aquarium in Singapore were also indescribably cute. When I was allowed to feed them, they ate a huge piece of food that looked like dog food. I could watch them munching away for hours on end and never get tired of them.

When we have concerts, there is a staff member who pairs me up with him to guide me. That staff member would make an embroidered version of the bass I use at every show and give it to me as a gift. On one of our tours, I was using a white bass, and they reproduced it perfectly. He even gave me a white bass to put on my character "Pitan", who is the mascot of JUMP's characters "Jumpuu". It's really cute, and it's important to me. I cherish it.

Yabu Kota

Kids are so cute, aren't they? My nieces and nephews are cute, but so are my friends' kids. My friends have babies, and there are times I would also cuddle them when we would have dinner together. I look at them and think, "This child is going to work hard and lead the future of Japan." I always think about how precious children are.

It's difficult for me to describe my own cuteness. During the quarantine period, I was cooking... ah, I subconsciously put an o before "cooking" (laughing) (T/N: Yabu is talking about putting an o in front of a noun, which makes it more polite). Come to think of it, I also put an "o" in front of everything, like holiday ("oyasumi") and obento. That’s cute. Back to the point, I started cooking and for the first time in my life, I used up a bottle of oil. It's cute that I'm as happy about something as small as that. When I was in kindergarten, my family lived in an apartment complex and I was so cute that my friend's mother asked me if she could draw my picture. I had that drawing of me at my parents' house for a while, which their mother had sketched out so well in pencil while I was playing with my friend.

Even though I've grown up, I still think round characters are cute. The same goes for Doraemon, Anpanman and Pikachu. I love the character Pichu before he evolves into Pikachu, and I still use that character when I play fighting games.

Inoo Kei

The other day I was on the set of Mezamashi TV, and I happened to pass by a store that sold merchandise of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and I remembered that I hadn't given a birthday present to Ito Asako-san yet, so I picked out a few things to buy for her. Then the shop assistant said, "Have one of these," and gave me a stuffed toy. It's in the living room right now, and it's the only cute little thing in the Inoo household.

I turned 30 in June, and I seriously don't think I look my age. When I tell people how old I am, they say, "Oh, you're that old already?", so I should've kept my age private from around 28 years old! But my appearance isn't the only thing that's changed. My body is definitely getting older (laughs). Alcohol is more likely to stay with me until the next day, and in the last year or two, my metabolism has slowed down and I'm getting fat. You have to be careful about how much you eat and keep your body young!

What I think is cute are girls who I have renewed appreciation for. In the past, the word "cute" for a girl was just a superficial way of saying that her face and clothes were cute. But nowadays, I think every girl has her own cuteness! As I've grown up, I've become more respectful of each person's individuality, I guess. I may not look like a 30 year old, but I'm a 30 year old in terms of how I think (laughs).

Takaki Yuya

The things I associate with cute... I wonder. I don't say cute that often. Even if I think it, I don't say it. I don't even think I've said it to my sister's three children, not even once. But that cheekiness and all, is cute. Every year I get sent snowboarding videos of my nephews in our family group messages. I love how hard they work at it. They're great at sliding and I'm impressed. Well, my reply is only something like, "Great. Have fun~". If I'm going to be a little generous, it's when I give them something like sweets or a toy. I'd be waiting in front of the register for my sister and nephews to go around around the store after saying, "I'll buy you anything you want."

I guess I grew up being told I'm more of a cool guy than a cute guy. If I may say so myself. When I would become absorbed in something and be in high spirits, adults would tell me how cute it was (laughs). I still see a good car and sometimes get excited and say, "Wow!" One of my personal items is a tire table at home, which is my kind of cute interior style. I saw one at a friend's house, and I said, "I want to make one too, so tell me the shop where you got the glass cut" and he said, "I've got two, I'll give you one." and gave it to me. I like this table a lot because it's gives the room a manly vibe!

Arioka Daiki

The period from kindergarten to elementary school was my peak period for being cute. When I walked outside, I would get balloons from the people around me once in a while. I think I was probably popular with university-aged girls! But I think it was more of my behaviour than my cute face. I was naughty and on the train, I couldn't sit still. Seeing that childlike behavior in children, people would say, "Isn't that child cute?" and I could hear them. At the time, I was embarrassed to be called cute, so I hid behind my mum's back (laughs). For me, "interesting" makes me happier. When I saw kids my age trying to get laughs on TV shows where they challenged a game and if they succeeded, they would get prize money, I was kind of frustrated and would say, "This is what I would've said if I were you!" and it became a fiery rivalry.

There are many times when I objectively look at everyone in JUMP being noisy and think it's a really cute situation. Like when we started playing menko (T/N: A card game) in the dressing room. It all started when Chinen and I were on location and were given a menko with pictures of the manga "Kochikame". When I gave a menko to Takaki who loves "Kochikame", he asked how was he going to turn it over and tried it out. But before I knew it, I noticed that Yuto and Yabu-kun were the ones who were the most into it. A staff member came to the dressing room saw everyone slamming menko on the floor and was so surprised and said, "Eh! Scary, scary, what's this?" It was too heated, as you can imagine.
