Hey! Say! JUMP - Myojo April 2021 (English Translation)

Mar 07, 2021 16:30

JUMP's costumes and goods for concerts have been firmly established with each member's colour. The theme of this shoot is a different colour to the members' colours, where you'll see a new scope that'll bring fresh excitement...!?

Yamada Ryosuke

When I hear the word "white", the person who comes to mind is Tsuchiya Tao-chan, my co-star in the movie "Dai Kaiju no Atoshimatsu". I've only met her a few times on set, but even then, I could tell that she was a genuine person. Tanaka Kei-chan, who has worked with Tao-chan many times, once told me that "Tao-chan is truly a pure girl (T/N: This uses the word masshiro or 'pure white')," and he was really right! She has a very beautiful way of using keigo, and when she speaks to me, I feel embarassed (laughs). In terms of the colours I have around me, I probably only have white on t-shirts. I think the most common colour (I own) is probably grey. My curtains, sofa, carpet and bed sheets are all grey. My room is co-ordinated in black, grey and wood, which gives it a modern chic feel.

One of the things I've changed recently is the character I use in online games. We fight in teams of three: vanguard, mid-range and rearguard. I've basically always been the vanguard character because I like to be the fighter who goes forward and fights hard with force. But once I tried using a rearguard character and it was surprisingly fun, so I've been trying to master that recently. The rearguard character can have a sniper, and I'm crazy good with it (laughs).

I particularly don't like black and it's not a colour I'm attached to. It's not for me, but people tend to choose black. There's something about black that's just not safe, which is why it's not a colour that I consciously choose. If I had to say, I think it's the most common colour. Most Japanese people have black hair by nature. When I choose a colour, I guess I tend to choose blue a lot~ I get a lot of blue things from people, and I like them all quite a bit. So when I was in my mid-twenties, I started to think, "Oh, maybe I like blue~." I have a blue sofa at home now, and a blue bed. I remember when I was choosing a sofa I thought it was the most beautiful one. I thought it was a relaxing colour.

I was thinking "My hairdryer is getting old~", so last year for my birthday my friend asked me if I wanted anything as a present and I got a hair dryer. I don't know if it made a difference to the way (my hair) turned out (laughs), but it has a lot of power and it looks stylish. I've been using all my appliances since I started living alone, so maybe it's about time to replace my washing machine and fridge. The washing machine is getting unpredictable and I would like the fridge to be a bit bigger. I don't cook that much, but I need a bigger freezer! I've got a lot of crab at home now because of the thank you gift from the hometown tax return (T/N: From what I gather, taxpayers in Japan can choose to divert some of their residential tax to a local government and they get a thank you gift in return. This is called "hometown tax" or "furusato nouzei"). I've also got meat and things, so it's pretty full (laughs).

When I think of the colour of a rose, I think of red. It's a colour that I like, but it's also a colour that I'm a bit embarrassed to wear, because I feel it's too passionate or it makes me look stronger. But more than that, it's a colour to celebrate, because it has an image of the "NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen". Last year there was no audience, but the nervousness was still there and more importantly, the fact that a traditional program that has been going on for more than half a century was able to continue without giving into coronavirus, I was very honoured to be apart of it and I was once again able to feel the underlying strength of entertainment, that even in such a situation like this, it won't die out.

I was playing a game where you live on a deserted island with animals, and one of my friends who came to my island through online play said to me, "Yuto's house has no sense of interior design or furniture arrangement at all" (laughs). As I thought, "It's just a game! It doesn't matter", I realised there were a lot of things in my real room that I'd noticed, but I'd been neglecting so I bought a new humidifier and a new Wi-Fi router. When I was taking my English lessons online, there was a timelag where I used to think, "Am I in Korea or Taiwan?" until I got my Internet connection, but now I feel comfortable going so quick! I have a habit of searching the internet for things I'm interested in, such as the meaning of English words or the ingredients of supplements I'm taking, and now I can jump straight to the site and enjoy a stress-free life.

・Every year I get my lucky colours read by the palm reader talent Shimada Shuhei-san. 2021 was red and green, I felt it was destined that this shoot would also be green too. When I think of green, I imagine Miyagi. The mountain side where I lived is full of greenery, but there's also a lot of greenery around the sea, dotted with forests. I grew up in a place like that, which is probably why I still like camping. The most common colours around me are silver and brown. All my camping equipment - lanterns, fire pits, my sleeping bag - is silver, and most of my musical instruments and tablewear are brown. I like the Scandinavian 'kuksa' wooden cups and I have three of them. The soft smell of wood that lingers when I drink my coffee is nice. ♪

・ Speaking of changes, I recently changed my hair colour. I change my hair colour and style about every three months to motivate myself, and this time I went with the brightest colour I've ever had in my life. I've had my hair a lot of colours in the past, so I just decided with my hairdresser that "In the meantime, let's go for something brighter." There's no deeper meaning. Since it's so white it can cause a lot of damage, I bought the latest model of hairdryer that's good for my hair. One thing I'd like to change in the future is my workroom where I make music. With the songs I created during the stay at home period, 5 of them ended up having a similar feel to them, so I thought it would be good to change the environment (I'm working in). I'm thinking of getting a new desk and chair, and maybe changing my music software.

・Pink has a strong image of women because of the influence of Super Sentai I watched as a child. When my Mum bought me pink clothes, I really hated to wear them. I don't know if that's still with me, but I don't buy or own anything pink. But my favourite food is pink! When I was at school, I used to have a bento that sometimes had three-coloured soboro (T/N: ground food cooked into fine pieces) in it, which was meat soboro, egg soboro and the other was pink fish floss. I loved it because it looked beautiful and tasted sweet and delicious. The colour I tend to buy for the personal items around me is a blue that's not quite navy. It's the team colour of Gamba Osaka (laughs). I co-ordinated the curtains and carpet in my room to that colour a couple of years ago, and the room comes together better, it's calming like the colour of the deep sea.

・My new habit I've started doing recently is to do proper flexibility when I get out of the bath every day. I used to do this before dancing at concerts and singing shows, but I thought it would be better for my body if I did it every day, so I started in 2021. I take about 40 minutes to do it. I do it while watching anime or video sites, and it's perfect. It hasn't been long since I started, so I haven't seen any drastic changes, but I think the range of movement in my body will gradually increase. What I'd like to change now is my kitchen knife. I've been using a 2,000 yen knife from the supermarket for a long time, even though I started cooking. It's about time I got a better knife!

Inoo Kei

・Chinen gave me some gold as a souvenir when he went abroad for his work with "World Gymnastics" several years ago. I think it was small, not worth more than 10,000 yen. I think that's what I remember when I think of gold. We had a game of janken with all the members where only the winner got something, and I won (laughs). It was the first time in my life that I got real gold. I had it on display when I got it, but now it's in a drawer in my house. I don't really have a favourite colour, but I do have a strong attachment to my blue member's colour. Other than that, when I buy clothes I tend to go for monotone colours like black and white. I'd actually like to introduce more colours into my life. What colour am I interested in? Hmm~ green! I would never have chosen to wear green in the past.

・ I think I've changed recently in terms of how I feel about starting something new this year. When I meet my friends, I want to have more hobbies that we can do together, not only just eating together. After all, isn't it better to have something you enjoy as you get older? I'd like to get my motorbike licence and go touring. Another thing I'd like to change is the cleanliness of my room. My room hasn't been clean for a long time. I feel like it's a bit tidy there and messy there~ For starters, I need to get rid of the clothes I don't wear!

・When I think of blue, I think of the sea. I associate it with the clear blue sea of Okinawa. It looks really pretty from the surface, but the deep sea that I see when I go diving is also very beautiful. Diving can be done basically all year round, so you can kind of feel the differences between the seasons. I especially like the winter sea. It's pretty much the same in every sea, but it's much clearer in winter! I've heard in the summer, when it's sea bathing season, there are a lot of people in the water and the sand flutters around in the sea, so it gets a bit murky. That doesn't happen in the winter, so it's fun to see fish and rocky areas more clearly. Come to think of it, there isn't really anything blue in the things I own. Everything around me is dark (coloured)! The only thing that has any colour is my sportswear. In winter I wear red or yellow puffer jackets, and surprisingly I don't have any black ones.

・The latest thing I've changed is my socks. About once a year I get the urge to throw out all my underwear and socks in my wardrobe, but the other day I replaced all my old socks! It's nice to see new items organised in my drawer, and it feels good when I wear them. There's one more thing I'm not so sure about. I wish I had a water dispenser in my house. It would make it easier when I want to eat instant noodles (laughs). But right now, I have a pet bottle in each room so I can drink water whenever I want. If I switch to a water dispenser, I think I'd be worried about having to go to one place to get water...

・Due to the influence of anime characters, I have the impression that purple is mysterious and strong. The monsters that appear purplish are usually psychic or ghost types, and I don't like to make enemies with them. Even in the Sentai series, there is a rather dark image of the enemy. But recently, I've been seeing a lot of bright pastel purples, so I associate it with a cute atmosphere. Also, even without thinking of member colours, purple has always reminded me of Takaki. Takaki has always loved purple and he wore purple clothes and items when he was a Jr. I didn't have anything purple, so I watched him thinking he looked really cool and mature. The colours I tend to buy are black and white, but if I'm going to wear something, it'd be red. I tend to add a little bit of red to my clothes. It's not like I don't have some blue and light blue items, but I don't wear them often. When I wear it, I feel like I'm taking on a challenge and saying "I'm going to try this today!"

・In JUMP's annual Christmas gift exchange, I got a shower head from Yuto, so I changed it immediately. The water pressure isn't that strong, but it seems like it has fine bubbles that's soft against my skin ♪ I think the bubbles help to get rid of dirt, and my styling products come off faster than before. You can also put the shower head in the bathtub and use it like a bubble bath. It's like being in a carbonated hot spring, which makes bath time even more fun!
