Slayers REVOLUTION ep. 5? Yes? **contains spoilers. So. Many. Spoilers** ((post edited 5 million times for spelling errors, line changes, and replacement of the raw video with a subbed version.))
Slayers deserves all the verbosity one can throw at it!
I know, wasn't the Slayers dub oddly fascinating? Veronica Taylor did a great job with giving Amelia a special 'airhead' quality, and I actually really dig Filia's dub voice. Even Lina's TV voice was ok...Lisa Ortiz's voice makes my ears bleed sometimes, but I'm strangely compelled to keep listening. I really loved Cynthia Martinez as Lina's OAV voice, though. She sounded more chilled out than either Megumi Hayashibara or Ortiz, and she often made Lina seem like a victim of circumstance who just happens to end up blowing up the town.
my God, Xellos's hair is beautiful. He may be prettier than Gourry now! Oooh, it's a toss-up for me. I just noticed in this episode how luxurious Gourry's bangs were this season. So: it's a walk-off.
Poor Zelgadis, I guess he forgot he left his cowl/mask thing at home todayProbably he thought he was comfortable in his skin, but the mention of Rezo brought all the old insecurities to the surface :( Though honestly, Zel has dressed up
( ... )
Yeah, most of them also ended up or had been working on Pokemon at the time--When I first rented a Slayers VHS some years ago, I remember going "This Gourry guy sounds like...BROCK?! *checks name; watches Pokemon* HE IS O_O" and the princess who worshiped Zomelgustar (sp?) was voiced by Misty/Jessie's dub VA. (Amelia's is Ash, Lina's va got minor voice roles and that fox character in Try who works for Valgaav was voiced by Meowth's VA and, uh, the anime-only swordsman in Next is voiced by Tracy's [The sketch artist from Orange Islands] VA. That's all I can remember off-hand.
Oh! Gaav's VA is none other than Dan Green (Yami Yugi in Yu-Gi-Oh and Prof Birch in Pokemon. Among other voices).
13:31 : It's my own pet theory that Zelgadis pre-transformation was actually a girl, judging by his flashback's tendency to dress in cute sailor-esque outfits (speaking of which, I have a fanfic to finish... >.>), which brings whole new levels of oddness to your proposed Amelia/Pokota/Zel love triangle. And yet, I am intrigued. You know, I vaaaguely
( ... )
So I have never really watched anime or read manga (except for this bizarre hetalia thing that just feels like everyone is teasing me because apparently there's lots of story and no one is translating END DIGRESSION) so I don't know if you mean this literally (and I suspect you do) but What I don't understand is why he has to pull down his sleeve to show everyone how his skin is made of rocks. Zel, your face is made of rocks. cracked me right up.
I just googled the Hetalia thing. It looks...cute? As you say, bizarre? Borderline wrong? I'm not sure how I feel about the Japanese doing a take, no matter how lighthearted, about China and Korea during WWII. Just sayin', Himaryua Hidekaz.
I am glad to be of comedic service! If you ever feel like giving anime another try, Slayers is very friendly to new viewers. It's a fun fantasy/magic parody-ish series, and the English dub (kurahiel on Youtube has all the videos) is not bad at all.
I actually don't think I've been able to read anything about China and Korea (though I did get to read a little bit about Hong Kong which was rather wrong.) Mostly what's been translated has been about Austria, Russia, etc, with a lot about the relationship between the UK and the US.
I'll try watching just about anything, so I will check that out. Thanks for the youtube link!
I was really worried too! I think comedic devices in anime/manga have changed so much since Slayers aired, so I was afraid, but half-expecting, more of the current trends to show up this season to make it seem 'contemporary'. But I'm really glad they're keeping the flavor of the original, but it's also nice that it doesn't feel like just a nostalgia gimmick. I mean, this season's plot is moving the series's major storylines forward and I am so, so excited about it :D
I just cannot bring myself to like David Moo's performance Totally understandable, yo. Dubs are weird like that - you either click with a new voice or you don't. Like, Luffy's new voice for FUNimation seems to be pretty well accepted, but I can. not. stand it at all :/ For no real reason...
but I'm sure he'll get an important role once Zuuma appears on the battlefield. I hope so! Gourry's already been given a couple of chances to genuinely use his sword, but has come up pretty short each time...so I hope facing Zuuma will either show off his sword skills or create a chance for him to grab the Sword of Light from Pokota, even if it is a replica. Gourry is my baby and I want him to be happy!
I'm not digging the Revolution manga design of Xel for the sole reason that his cloak is randomly missing. Oh, gosh, really? I didn't even notice! Well, that just makes things worse, doesn't it?
Finally, you managed to destroy Rezo's credibility as a character in my eyes forever by mentioning the sparkly eyelashes and the Takehito Koyasu
( ... )
Episode five is my favorite episode so far Me too! The balance of drama and comedy was really well-done in this episode :) Though I really loved, in episode 4, Zel's completely weird and intense moment of Pokota-baiting.
That sounds great. Please share. :D You can find it at Slayers Sounds (scroll down to "Volume 6 -- Comparison", where you can listen to Rezo's English, Japanese, and Chipmunk laughs). Lots of other fantastic soundbytes on the page too :)
