Some of us think we’ve been doing this ‘landsknecht thing’ since we were knee high to a grasshopper. But then, some of us HAVE been doing this landsknecht thing for that long…and even longer. Elizabeth Frye Jeffress can’t remember her first event, understandable given the circumstances. Elizabeth says, “My dad likes to joke that I've been going to ( Read more... )

You are welcome! If you like this sort of thing, I have several entries in the works (and a number under the same tag that I completed a couple of years back)...

The groups available to play with make all the difference. I have to say, in the case of the West Coast landsknecht groups, my husband and I have played with all of them and they are all awesome in their own ways. :)

I hear you on the enthusiasm front: while I love my German impression (obviously!) my husband and I tend to make it to only a few events a year these days due to travel time and expenses. It is hard to stay charged up about playing when events (and a chance to see friends) are few and far between.

I often think about the Happy Blur that we all experience from these events. This is a two part process; one part is the blur we place over all the *work* that goes into putting them on once we arrive ("Four weeks of nothing but prep and packing....Totally. Worth it."), and the other part is the blur we experience while we are at the events as we strive to pack in as much 'good time' as possible with our extended family network in a minimum of days with a maximum of activities.

This is especially true in Elizabeth's case, as her father lives in another state and so her chance to visit with family includes *real* family, and not just the chosen band of misfits we all consider our brothers and sisters. ;)

Wonderful!! Your compilations of Faire/Re-enactment history is fantastic both in it's roots searching history and the socialogical impact it has had upon it's participants. If I may be so bold, please continue and then bind it all into a book!

It is ridiculously sweet of you to say that honey. I am very happy to be the vehicle for these stories, but in the end they really aren't my stories. I am just glad that they have found an audience that appreciates them the same way that I do. :-)
