The Devil Eats Priests and Shits Landsknecht (or “Momma…Where do Landsknechts come from?” Part 2)

As you may recall from this post waaaay back in January of 2009, I have an interest in knowing just how this crazy German Landsknecht Thing got started out at events in the United States. The subject of a Family Tree Project came back around recently via some postings in the Old Guard hanging around on FB, and one of the most involved of these ' ( Read more... )

I met Adrian Butterfield and Victoria Ridenour in 1984 and spent Costume Con 2 in 1984 admiring their work and getting photos. Their beautiful clothing would bring tears to my eyes and they were generous with their time and talent.

Thank you for writing this history. I first really noticed the Landsknect style a few years later, and may finally get some garb done to wear at events.

Thank you! I have updated the entry to reflect the corrected names. Thank you for the insight into the people as well; hope to see you out in Frau Gear!

Cathie Berte and Greig Fors are good sources of info if you haven't talked with them yet. :-)

I started playing with the guild in 1991 (via Greig and Scott) and became a full-fledged member in 1993. But we were well underway by then.

Grieg and I are talking, I just need to get back to him to work out some more information and editing before posting anything.

And having just run into Cathie at CoCo this year, I may have to see about tapping Tonda for her contact information (I am sure she has it, right next to the multiple candles to Cathie she has burning on her Altar To The Costuming Godesses). Unless you might be able to hook me up with her current e-mail address?

I am also talking to Tim Finkas from down South (thank you Tim)!

Nicely done. I have to say that, since this Fiftieth Anniversary thing is approaching the re-collection and garnering of Guild and group histories is turning out to be a really wonderful thing. I remember Conn and the Landsknechts at agoura, how they dressed and behaved and the force that Conn was and is has always left an impression on me.
Thanks for the story :)

I just realized that no one had really gathered all these threads into one place. To be honest, there is probably only a small group of folks that really want to know all this stuff - but we're a passionate group! ;)
