Google+ (& Dreamwidth)

For once I am not the last to join a social media site. I have some Google+ invites to hand out so if you'd like to join, comment here with the email addy where you want the invite sent. Google is trying to control its server load (I'm guessing) by turning invites on and off. If you don't get an invite from me immediately it's because they've ( Read more... )

Sure! I might not be the best spokesman as I don't really use my account there but I like the ethos. It is run from LJ code that has been improved. It will seem quite familiar ( ... )

(I forgot to mention! No advertising there. Their business model is built around making it off of paid journal fees and more userpic fees.)

I'm not certain I'm the perfect person to reply as I don't really use my account. There's something to be said for having a duplicate journal: don't put your eggs all in one basket, never know when LJ is going to go insane & delete journals again, never know when LJ might collapse under the weight of spam, etc. OTOH, having accounts strewn across the web can get burdensome. You'd have to decide for yourself.

I can send you an invite and you can play with it if you want. If you don't like it, you could always delete the account. If you want to think about it more, take your time. I still have 13 invites so there's no hurry.

Is google+ better than regular google? I'm afraid I haven't heard about it.

It's relatively new. It's not like Google at all. It's like Google's alternative to Facebook only with privacy controls that make sense and the ability to keep your fandom and personal lives separate.

Right now it's in the beta testing stages so Google is limiting who can join based on an invite system -- or so it seems to me.

Ah - that is because I don't have my last name on the account. :) I'm listed as "Mish of Texas." You have to search that way; apparently searching by my email addy doesn't turn me up, even though I've set my account to be findable by email addy. Go figure.
