ROUND THREE: TIMEWARP

One of these days

Hey shippers! Welcome to the very last main round prompt. We have just been so, so impressed with the quality and creativity shown in each and every one of the submissions, and we’re a little sad that the HSO is about halfway through already--but we can’t wait to see what you all come up with for this ( Read more... )

Does it have to be a brand new AU? Or would new content for an existing AU be acceptable? (e.g., I already have a Steampunk AU, could I create something based off that?)

Or to turn it the other way, fanart for someone else's existing AU, like if I were to do a fancreation of Runawaystuck or 50sstuck?

Sorry, adding another one, you say the current time period is 1990-2030, but what of alternate version of current time? Uhh for example, I think I Am Legend was set in an alternate 2012?

Since part of this prompt is about the work that goes into constructing a historically specific AU, we've decided not to allow content created for existing AUs--whether they're yours or someone else's. Of course, this gets a little tricky when there are well-known AUs in a time period already, but please do your best to create something new!

And as for your second question: sorry, that falls outside the parameters of this challenge. Whatever time period you choose cannot be the current one in any iteration.

Can you do something set in multiple time periods?

Yep, multiple time periods are allowed! Just bear in mind the basic idea behind this prompt: that the characters should be native to a particular timeframe other than the present.

Based off a movie? tohphyong September 2 2011, 04:42:36 UTC
I really love the old spaghetti-western movies (especially the ones with Clint Eastwood <3) So I was wondering if my art could be based off of one of those movies. Can it? I know a movie prompt was already done, but I checked when my favourite westerns came out and it was not during the specified time period D':

Hm...sorry, we're going to have to say no. A big part of this prompt's spirit is the worldbuilding aspect of AUs, so while you could do art set in a world that incorporates spaghetti-western influences, we'd really prefer that it not be an actual crossover or anything like that. We realize this is may seem like a fine distinction! But it's all about the focus and intent.

would 1980s post-apocalyptic count as a timewarp??

Certainly, so long as you keep in mind the spirit of the prompt and make sure the specific time period is a central part of the AU!
