Spn art - three studies

Feb 21, 2010 22:11

I'm part of the Pulpympics event over at pulped_fictions, and one of the challenges was to set ourselves a goal for this month. I chose to do studies of lighting on bodies/faces, and since SPN has taken over my brain at the moment, it was only natural to involve that as well. Below the cut is one portrait and two nude male torsos. Just so you know. In case that ( Read more... )

Thank you! I love a muscled back too, so it was a pure pleasure to draw this one.

I would have clicked on the link, but you scared me away! ;)

Srsly, these are fantastic. I'm guessing you chose to do the shading in pen and ink rather than watercolor so you could really focus on it and make it precise? I like the effect, whatever the reason.

I'm also curious to know whether the references already had a strong light source, or whether you had to imagine adding one and imagine what it would do to the figures?

And congratulations for progress on your goal! (Even if you are on the wrong team...)

Oh I knew I shouldn't have said anything! You are all such prudes. ;)

Thank you so much. Yes, I saw a similar technique and thought it would be useful for these studies - it does make it less spontaneous, but that worked well for these. I like the effect too!

And I chose the references specifically because they had strong light sources, so I didn't have to make things up (well, I did end up making some things up, because I wanted a pose I could only find in part. ;))

Yes, this brings me close to the finish line on the goal! Just one more to go actually. And the Figure Skating... 7 days should be more than enough, right?

I sure hope so! Heh. I finally got a plotbunny last night, so something might happen with the Figure Skating...

Oh yay! for bunnies! I have had an idea for what to draw since I got the prompt, but I have been pushing it ahead of me the entire month. Seriously need to stop that!

Thank you so much! Yes, I like that one as well - and I enjoyed finding the reference photos quite a bit. :)
