Srsly, these are fantastic. I'm guessing you chose to do the shading in pen and ink rather than watercolor so you could really focus on it and make it precise? I like the effect, whatever the reason.
I'm also curious to know whether the references already had a strong light source, or whether you had to imagine adding one and imagine what it would do to the figures?
And congratulations for progress on your goal! (Even if you are on the wrong team...)

Thank you so much. Yes, I saw a similar technique and thought it would be useful for these studies - it does make it less spontaneous, but that worked well for these. I like the effect too!
And I chose the references specifically because they had strong light sources, so I didn't have to make things up (well, I did end up making some things up, because I wanted a pose I could only find in part. ;))
Yes, this brings me close to the finish line on the goal! Just one more to go actually. And the Figure Skating... 7 days should be more than enough, right?
