Since Bill left, Terry hadn't attempted to bring Hermione out of her room. Now, though, he figured that it was finally time to step in and make sure that she didn't lose herself in depression. The knock at the door tore Hermione's eye away from the fire place. She'd been sitting on the couch with a large mug of tea for who knows how long, but she hadn't drunk a sip. Hermione gasped and her hand covered her mouth, muting a strangled cry. "She looks like she was. . . torn apart!"

Terry put his hand on Hermione's shoulder, turning her away from the sight. "Maybe it was that crup... It shouldn't have been in the castle to begin with." He went through the spells in his mind to clean this up and wondered with it hadn't been cleaned before.

"No, it couldn't have been Esmond. He never left Bill's side. And then he was with me all the time after Bill left. He was with me until I let him go find Bill." Leaning into Terry's touch, Hermione spun away from the sight of the mangled body and buried her face in his shirt, sobbing.

Suddenly, she pulled away stared at him, horrified. "Terry! Something got in!"

Terry rubbed Hermione's back, frowning. There was nothing else in the castle that could have done this. Then, it hit him. About the same time it did Hermione, it seemed.

"I'll clean this up," he told her. "You get the others that have wands and we'll go look for it. Okay?"
