They called me mad! They said it should not be done! (You know how this ends, right?)

I SHOWED THEM! I SHOWED THEM ALL!!!!! HA HA HA HA HA!

Of course, this means I have to share, otherwise, there is no proof.

Something like 7 or 8 years ago, I found a recipe for rum balls (not this one exactly, but close enough), and I followed it, and the results were really wonderful. I don't even much care for rum, but WOW ( Read more... )

The gimlet balls sound brilliant! If you're feeling wealthy, you might try them with Seneca Drums gin.

Ooh, that sounds tasty! The gin I tend to buy is Bombay Sapphire.

I like Bombay Sapphire too, but this is the stuff that Bombay Sapphire wants to grow up to be. roozle and I happened across the distillery on the shores of Seneca Lake and I instantly fell in love with this gin.

This all sounds great! And I'd bet that back when these sorts of things were all the rage, people commonly made specific-drink balls. Heck, I have a great recipe for margarita cupcakes right here, and I suspect that's another that would translate nicely to ball form.

Or piña colada. OMG.

Not that it matters to me right now because I probably couldn't have more than one, but still.

Yeah, I've had margarita cupcakes, and mojito cupcakes (YUM), so there must be a range of other, more obscure things, too.

There's not much alcohol in a single rum ball; the entire batch is only supposed to have 1/4 c.

Maybe how YOU make 'em. ;) But indeed, fair point.

A couple of years ago, I went to a cupcake cocktail party where all the concoctions (and there were many!) were drink-based and wow, they were so good. Instead of plates, we used those wide, mostly-flat wine glasses (plastic).

(My first comment was supposed to have this userpic on it. I must have misclicked.)

Yeah, a more cake-based rum ball could probably absorb A LOT more rum :) I've seen recipes that are basically "bake some brownies, then roll the brownies into balls; soak in rum." Which is the only way I can explain people saying they got buzzed off rum balls.
