Fire, Measured by What Doesn't Burn. A really incredible piece of writing (it is a retelling of an old fairytale, done for Yuletide, but that is completely totally irrelevant to appreciating it). It's pretty intense. Highly recommended.

You should check ebay for the Vibrams (Vibra?) if you know your exact fit.

Dayum, that article about running shoes is depressing unto me. I've tried Vibrams, and hated them. My feet hurt *now* when I run in regular shoes, especially at the heel. I can't imagine what they'd feel like if I wore Vibrams (which as best as I could tell had virtually no padding whatsodamnever).

Yeah, my biggest concern with the Vibrams is learning to walk in them without bruising my heels apocalyptically, 'cause I walk fast and pretty hard, and I know I come down on my heels with a lot of force (my mom used to complain about the noise I made walking through the house). Because yes, there's no padding in there (and yet I don't hurt myself in my sheep fleece house slippers...hmm). My research indicates it can take a while to adjust to the new stride, and (possibly) to having your toes held in an unfamiliar posture (too many narrow shoes here!).

There are a lot of other "barefoot" type shoes out there these days, not just the Vibrams.

I was wondering whether walking and running are comparable for their results, actually.

I suspect not. But I do not know for sure.
