all-female superteams

So Marvel's got MARVEL DIVAS and DC's got DC SIRENS or something, apparently. I haven't been paying attention to it, but neither of them seem to be pleasing my flist. The only one I've glanced through is MARVEL DIVAS, which is kind of tooth-grating in that there are a couple of glimmers where you say, "Oh, hey, I see how this could be a half- ( Read more... )

Oh, don't forget! Marvel's also giving us girls lip gloss!

I like your Superhero Big Sister idea. That's a comic I'd read.

Or maybe just told good stories that treated both the male and female characters respectably... it's not that girls don't want to read comics (or don't read comics... just as many girls read manga as boys) it's that American comics don't cater to them well. And if the muckamucks think it needs to be girly froufrou stuff, they are nuts too. Many, many girls love boys manga as well.

I'll stop before I really get on my soapbox...

Gotham City Sirens is, basically, the "Bad Girls of Gotham" book that Paul Dini proposed a number of times--it's a Catwoman/Poison Ivy/Harley Quinn teamup book. Unlike Marvel Divas, it's *not* a lame "Sex in the City with superpowers" book.

who's on your all-female comic book team?

I actually kind of enjoyed the brief adjectiveless X-Men run where the team consisted of Rogue, Mystique (prior to Mystique's sudden-but-inevitable betrayal), Lady Mastermind, that girl Sentinel android, and Iceman & Canonball (Iceman being, of course, an honorary girl).

Rogue and Mystique's warped mother-daughter thing is always interesting to read.

My all-time female team-up, though, would be Carol Danvers, Wanda Maximoff, and Jan Van Dyne, maybe with Mockingbird along for the ride, because that would force Marvel to pull their heads out of their collective arses and 1) de-crazify and un-fridge Wanda and 2) resurrect and unfridge Jan.

Birds of Prey is pretty close to a all-time DCU female team-up.

Yeah. So this makes no sense. The people who would like this don't even know it exists, and the women in comic book fandom are going to find it annoying as hell. You have this amazing talent to sum up what everyone thinks but can't express without flailing in short concise sentences ( ... )
