Bad news.
The landlord rented the apartment out from under Jack and Te.
This means they're starting the apartment search all over again, so we're not going to be building a ramp for the foreseeable future. As you can imagine, this is pretty much the worst-case scenario for the fundraiser, especially after such a great success. We thought about the options, and took a look at the situation as it stands. Under the circumstances, the only ethical thing to do is to issue refunds to everyone.
You may recall that Amazon's Honor System had some pretty thorny technical problems during the drive (or, as we refer to it, "that time your generosity broke Amazon"). Those problems are still there. I've spent a lot of time on the phone with the folks at Amazon, trying a number of solutions, but things are sufficiently broken that the good folks at Amazon will have to issue the refunds from within their system. You do not have to do anything to get your refund; Amazon is on that.
As you can imagine, the glitches also prevent me from monitoring the processing of the refunds, so I will ask you to help me out there. If you donated, please watch out for the refund; if you haven't received it by the end of the week, please email me. (My email address is my LJ username at gmail.)
I'm adding a link to this information to the ramp drive post. If you've posted about the ramp drive somewhere, please post a link to this post, as well, so all the donors know what to expect.
Again, thank you for your generosity, and I'm sorry things didn't work out better.
