"We Have Only This" - Poem

Aug 11, 2007 17:37

Sooo... sidhe1 are doing this poetry thing. We were each supposed to write a poem using the words provided. These were the words I was given: random, cookie, vampire, work, water, faith, wings, cathedral, photo, and gentle. We are allowed to use the words as is, or as their variations... ie... gentle - gently

This is what I came up with:

"We Have Only This"

We have only this
one life, a faded photograph held
enshrined in the cathedral of our souls

We try to hold it gently
in faith

We have only this
one life, from kindergarten cookies
to teenage vampire years

We try to live it colorfully
with promise

We have only this
one life, a random work of frenetic art
carried on wings of desire

We try to realize it truthfully
in wonder

We have only this
one death, returning to the waters
of universal consciousness

We try to hold it gently
with faith
