This Week's Theme: Revolution!

Jul 18, 2010 00:30

Your mods would like to apologize for disappearing on y'all for the past couple weeks. Between holiday trips and other hectic life events, we were not able to keep up with requesting or logging recommendations.

But we're back! And we have a theme! In recognition of Independence Day in the US and Bastille Day in France (and other revolutions which had major events in the month of July), we request recommendations on the theme of

REVOLUTION

What do we mean by REVOLUTION? Well, it will probably depart somehow from canon (although if a story writes a really strong Ministry under Pius Thicknesse in detail, it may certainly count).

Dictionary.com defines it as thus:

rev·o·lu·tion
   /rɛvəˈluʃən/ Show Spelled[rev-uh-loo-shuhn]
-noun
1. an overthrow or repudiation and the thorough replacement of an established government or political system by the people governed.
2. Sociology. a radical and pervasive change in society and the social structure, esp. one made suddenly and often accompanied by violence. Compare social evolution.
3. a sudden, complete or marked change in something: the present revolution in church architecture.
4. a procedure or course, as if in a circuit, back to a starting point.
5. a single turn of this kind.
6. Mechanics.
a. a turning round or rotating, as on an axis.
b. a moving in a circular or curving course, as about a central point.
c. a single cycle in such a course.
7. Astronomy
a. (not in technical use) rotation ( def. 2 ).
b. the orbiting of one heavenly body around another.
c. a single course of such movement.
8. a round or cycle of events in time or a recurring period of time.
9. Geology. a time of worldwide orogeny and mountain-building.

Though the geek in me felt it necessary to include all definitions, we expect that most of the "revolutions" will fall into the first three definitions given.

So, got Hermione leading House Elves out of bondage? A dystopia in which Voldie wins, but there is still a resistance? Muggles having more witch hunts and various folks fighting them? Wizards taking over the Muggle world so that the Muggle-lovers and Muggles decide to fight back?

Bring 'em on!

And, for this theme, we will be looking for the subtheme of what is being overthrown. Or what has caused this strange worldwide-building of mountains.

And look! We now have a text box for your convenience!
