A/N:  Thought I'd try my hand at poetry.  It's not great by any stretch of the imagination but here it is anyhow.

He huddled alone on the forest ground,
His breath puffing with each exhale.
He thought of his life,
So riddled with strife,
And wished Death did not hound.

As he sat there,
A bit of parchment spare,
Opened

thanks. I was really looking for something different. I didn't go too far over believe it or not so it wasn't too difficult to whittle it down.

Oh, I really love this! ♥ This is so beautiful. I love how you seem to tell their story so effortlessly in this. I'm really, really impressed! I don't think I could ever manage something like this at all. Really well done!

*blushes* thank you very much! It came together nicely, I'll admit. Surprised me, too. It wasn't easy but it wasn't as hard as I expected, either. Question is, was it a fluke? We'll have to see with the next prompt.

I bet you could do it if you tried. You'll never know until you do try.

It's a cute poem. :) The rhyming is good (despite the meter variations, which are unavoidable under a word count).
