I loved this chapter! I was really glad that we got some closure on the Dursley's, instead of just having them disappear off page without us ever really knowing what happened to them. I'm glad that JKR wrote Dudley like she did - I ended up kind of liking him after this chapter. I loved how he said that Harry wasn't a waste of space, and shook his hand before they left.
I also liked how things ended with Petunia: how she acted like she wanted to say something, and gave him an odd look, but left without a word. I wonder what it was that she thought about saying to him?
I was kind of hoping that there was more to Dumbledore saying "Remember my last" to Petunia in OoTP than just remember his letter that he left on the doorstep with Harry. But apparently not?
Well, there was sort of more to it, in that Dumbledore's letter to the Dursleys was his last communication with Petunia, but not his first--we get to see in Snape's memories that Petunia wrote him asking if she could go to Hogwarts, and he wrote her back.
Yeah, that's why DD said Remember my *last* instead of just remember my letter. Because they had corresponded before. But I was hoping that there would be something more to it, like DD had communicated with Petunia over the years. Something like that.
I love how Petunia's behavior was really explained in The Prince's Tale. That was by far my favorite chapter in the book.
I really did like this chapter. It was a really fitting end to the Dursleys. I got a little choked up when Dudley said good-bye. You feel like maybe there could be hope for him after all.
Petunia really didn't have any redeeming qualities, did she? She loved her sister, we know that much at least.
