Wow! A beautifully written trip down Draco's memory lane! Interesting that as a reader I didn't know what 'pairing' it was going to be, and I wondered at first if the stranger was going to turn out to be Harry. But Snape/Draco and their dynamics in the 5th year are perfect! I'm glad we also found out what five or swords really 'meant' (though I liked the phallic interpretation as well). I was ready for bed but I started reading this and I couldn't stop :-)

Thank you so much! When I first drafted the story I wasn't exactly sure who the five men were going to be or what order they would be in. I figured, well, let's dig into the memories and see what makes the most sense... I've always seen these two as very very close to a canon pairing, though, so it's not a surprise that's what I came up with!

Asking someone to do their own reading seems like a very Snape move. Thanks for writing!

Especially when in the end he admits he doesn't know that much about Divination himself! Sneaky Slytherins. ;-)

Omg I thought this was a Snape is dead and Draco has regrets story and it was fucking breaking my heart...I thought the man would end up being Harry. I love that it was Snape and I love Draco's choice. New Orleans was an incredible setting. This was an amazing story.

OMG I'm so glad you loved it. What's funny is I had plotted out one version where the man turns out to be Harry, but Snape won out in the end. :-)

Now, how to say I liked that this was PGish and devoid of smut, without being offensive? Perhaps it enabled me to concentrate on Draco, and on the twists and turns in his relationship with Snape, and to think more about him and it?

I was hoping his stranger was Snape, though I tried not to get my hopes up too high.

Y'know, Harry isn't the only one who has a "saving people" thing; Snape's pretty damned good at it. And all done by obliging Draco to recall all those intolerable memories, and to think about what they mean for him. To draw the conclusions he's been running away from, and to grasp the restored hope he thought he had been forever denied.

Yes, yes, oh yes. :-)
