When he dreams that night, however, he dreams of Harry and wonders what he misses more: his chance at redemption or his chance at love. - I actually whimpered, at that point. Wonderful flangst.

I loved Severus in this, how he is caring and yet able to leave the decision to Draco. &hearts
I almost cried when Draco was forced to kill Narcissa, but you used this as a perfect similarity between the boys. Harry's portrait rings true as well, his determination and calculating pragmatism seem cruel, but that's a part of the war he is fighting.
If someone were lying on the ground dying, a normal person would give him a pat on the back and ask if he was okay - Potter would grip him by the arm and ask how badly it hurt. And it takes a subtle person like Draco to tell the difference between the two.
I was shivering when I read this. It simply nails down what they are.

I really enjoyed doing the characterization for both Draco and Harry in this story - I was trying to make Harry a foil for Draco, where he had gone through some of the same things but knew how to deal with them, whereas Draco was just learning how. I also really wanted to give Draco time to grow up, since that kind of thing never happens in a week, month, or even a year's worth of time, and, of course, I wanted the story to focus on him because of the card.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
