Not much to say about the teen romance here. Whatever.

For all the comments I've seen about Hermione's "growing ruthlessness," I rarely see anything as critical about Harry, who's following a parallel path. His allegiance to the Half-Blood Prince is a little disturbing. M.

Oh, all of Our Heroes terrify me in this book. Hermione is icy and ruthless, Harry is ruthless with self-justification, and Ron is shockingly cavalier. I've already called Ginny wildly aggressive. I suppose one might argue that this is honest for protagonists at this age, but we're relying on these same protagonists to save the world for the seventh time, and one might hold out a shred of hope that they might be wise beyond their years, especially if they are the children of prophecy with the power to destroy the greatest dark wizard of their age. Love is a tall order when you cannot even muster compassion.

I Really Hope this point gets made in the seventh book. But then there is a lot I'm hoping for in the seventh book, by now, and a finite number of pages...

Hmm, I must be missing something in that I don't read Harry or Hermione to be particularly ruthless. Foolishly single-minded and markedly cranky, respectively, but not ruthless.

The teen romance here is incredibly corny. Imagine my eyeballs in that icon, rolling.
