This isn't decades ago, Severus thinks, when Amycus and Alecto haunted these halls every day. When they turned the dungeons into... despite himself, Snape finds himself scanning the halls for children.
"You-" He stops. His throat is dry. There is a simple fear that has sparked in his stomach. No other person, not Master nor lover, would notice it. Amycus, however? "You can't be here. You're-" I killed you. "gone."
His mind is racing. This can't be real. He can't be back.

Amy will never tell.
"Tsk tsk, Lad, your face is revealing everything. I taught you better. Take a moment now, compose yourself, I don't mind waiting." Taunting tones and dark eyes that dance, even if he isn't really here it's quite the illusion is it not? What an intriguing trick of the light or the mind.
Amycus doesn't move from his spot against the wall. There is a dagger in his hand that Severus should recognize. It was one of Amycus's favorites back when he was teacher, and Severus was student. After all, he lost his knife the night someone stabbed him in the back with a curse. He always liked to have something in his hands.

The admonishment is enough to snap Severus into control. He bows his head, searching for logic. Reason. Pushing down the fear. The knife catches Severus' attention, and the fear grows. He's careful this time, trying desperately to keep his expression impassive.
If he shows fear, it'll be too easy. If he gives defiance, it'll just make Amycus creative. Either way...
"You look good." Severus manages. "Better then the last time I saw you." He drops his hand to his wand but doesn't pull it. Someone once taught him a wand should be the last of your tools. "...why are you here then? To...give me staffing advice?"
