Sirius is asleep.

However, the sleep is broken by the moment his eyes snap open and his blood runs absolutely cold through his veins. It's no secret that he has a stronger connection to the other side, after the veil, after having found his way back on his own. He hesitates for only a split second before he closes his eyes.

Nothing. Except strawberries. It's not Severus, he's sure of it. This is new. Fresh. Never dead before...

Oh no.

Sirius leaps out of the bed and quickly pulls his muggle clothes on. His wand is in hand and he doesn't bother with leaving the house to apparate, instead he grabs a handful of floo powder and tosses it into the flames of the fireplace in his bedroom. They spark green and he clearly states his destination.

"Andi's."

Then he's through the hearth and gone. He's done this a thousand times before, he knows exactly how many stops on the network it is, and travel only takes a second.

She wasn't really clear on what happened.

Andi knew that she'd been feeling ill when she woke up but now, strangely she was feeling much better. Perhaps her fever had broken in the night.

Looking around however, Andi got the distinct impression she wasn't in her kitchen. Then things started to become crystal clear. The fever, the heaviness in her chest, the headaches and body aches...

Death.

It wasn't something Andi was against. At least not her own. Her life had been beautiful. More beauty, more joy, more--everything.

But still, death wasn't exactly what she'd imagined. She still felt...unfinished.

She was unfinished. There was still more to her story to be told.

When Sirius walks into the kitchen he stops short. He knows the instant he sees her form on the floor and he feels the tears spring to his eyes.

"Dammit, Andi..."

He kneels down and presses his ear against her chest. The skin is still warm to the touch but there is no heartbeat, a thin sheen of sweat upon her forehead. She's too warm. No breath in her lungs but she hasn't been gone long. Then the thought hits him.

She hasn't been gone long.

He can still get her backSirius carefully scoops her (she is not a body she will not be a body until she is gone for good and Sirius will hunt to the ends of the other side before that happens) into his arms and walks into the bedroom. Then he quickly and carefully rests her on the blankets and covers her with a sheet. She looks tired, asleep...still ( ... )

Andi takes a deep breath.

The air is sweet and cool. It reminds her of a beach--somewhere, she's not really sure where and she's not worried about not remembering. It's just a crisp, cool feeling.

There's a golden gate behind her. Not mammoth, not imposing, just sort of - there. It was as inviting as a back porch door. She knew all she had to do was walk through the gates and she wouldn't feel unfinished anymore.

She can't quite make out words, but she knows there's music behind the gates. Not stodgy choir music either--Andi can hear her favorite jazz one minute and country the next. Voices are raised and mixed in with their song is laughter. Joyful, unburdened. She moves a bit closer to the gates, not going in, but not shying away either.

She lifts her face up, knowing it can't be towards the sun- instead it feels like hope and joy and pure radiance. Whatever it is is warm on her face.

For the moment she's content to just be.
