This is luscious. It touches something I've felt is underexamined in canon- the idea of magic not as a higher, cerebral thing to be tapped and directed with a bit of wood, but as something more basic; earthier. In, as you say, the blood.

And YES, with the race types, and so wonderfully described. It so sums them up, and it so explains why they can never be together and yet never be apart.
