This is wonderful - so understated, and yet it all hangs to together so well. I love Snape lurking about and watching everything - just watching. This bit is especially great:

A thousand thousand words well up, none of them to be said. “Don’t worry, Severus,” says Regulus with a ghastly smile. “Crying’s my favourite.” Snape stands up straighter, looks down his nose, practices disdain.

Regulus whore? Moi?
