Nice... I can really imagine this pairing the way you've written it. I wouldn't have thought of it, but in some eerie, wrong way, it makes so much sense.
Wow. I think I really love this one. It's interesting and passionate - even sort of violent - in this so restrained way...
I love how there could be, maybe, some tiny breaches in Tom's armour, and how we see Minerva trying to open more of them, and failing. I love how there's no obvious battle won or lost, just these moments suspended in time. I love how Minerva's attention manage to make Tom more human than any of Dumbledore's standard compassion and worry could. I love how Minerva's obvious love and obvious lucidity about it make her more complex. And I love how all of this still isn't enough to make Tom deviate from his goal - because of power.
And most of all? I love that the end, in spite of everything, makes of Minerva the most powerful of the two, because she's able to make choices more clearly.

It took me a long time to come to read this. I'm so glad I waited for the right mood. It's slightly cold, but then also clear. The moments, and the breaks between them give it a very nice tone. It's a lovely read, even as the story is dark and kind of heart breaking. Quite beautiful.
