Challenge Ficlet: Crevasse (KS/SB) G (for the Valentine challenge)

Insanely rare pair. Brought about by a comment on my Kingsley poll thread, and as a present for rosie_red73 who begged me to write it. If you know of any more, both rosie_red73 and I would be grateful.

Amazing, as always. I loved the rhythm of this, and the look inside Kingsley--a very interesting character, and you've written him well.

They start small, these cracks of care. Nothing more than a thinness that you were hardly even aware of, like the first sign of bobbled wear on fabric. Scraped. A little worn. But you knew there were there, and beneath the tiniest of cracks lay Gehenna, huge and terrible. The destroyed live there.

That was just beautiful. Your poetic command of the language is so lovely to read!!!

Aw thank you! I've always loved Kingsley, or at least since dkwilliams played him on after_survivor. I came to realise that to do what he does he (Barty Snr, Moody and now we also see Scrimgeour too) must skate the edge of the dark, to almost become their quarry, but without feeling it. whereas the DE's are allowed to feel.

Thank you so much for reading, and commenting - as always!

Just as dark Jedi are allowed to feel.

I wonder where we got this idea that being on the side of good means sublimating everything.

This is really beautiful! I love how spare and carefully measured out the glimpses of Sirius are, and those glimpses into Shacklebolt's deep loneliness and self-deception, his cracking self-control. Totally heartbreaking.

Thank you! I can't remember without looking who said that his obsession was practically canon, as his desk was covered in photos of Sirius. How could you not just sit and stare at him all day? I would!

So glad you liked it!

This is excellent, but that's really no surprise. You've managed to take a pairing that I never thought of as plausible and made it so; you've taken a character that I've never really thought of past his place in canon and given him depth that I could have never fathomed. You manage to really get inside his head, to give him a clear, distinct voice - it's excellent.

I absolutely love the last three lines.

I'd never thought of it either, but when you think he was surrounded by pictures of Sirius all day at work.... Lucky man.

What a lovely comment - thank you!

Oh God that's beautiful. The descriptions of the photos and this line:
You take the part of brain that cares and you wrap it in steel and you bury it deep, you hear me boy? and the ending... it all just makes me want to cry. Lovely as ever. :)
