Great idea for the Head to have a magical Advent calendar that traps unwary students - and makes students who were fighting work together to escape. I liked the glimpses of 'Next Generation' staff, too.

Your characterisation of the three is fun, especially the banter between Rose and Scorpius. I particularly enjoyed this passage:

Rose hesitated, her Gryffindor Daring counterbalancing her Gryffindor Confidence in Doing the Right Thing by Respecting Other People's Property. Scorpius, too, paused, his Slytherin Ambition for Free Professorial Sweets counterbalancing his Slytherin Ambition for Not Antagonizing the Arbiter of his Academic Future.

Oh, adorable. Just what I needed today! Loved the characters, the snark, the random capitalizations, the advent-iness of it all, and of course, the deviousness of this mysterious headmistress. Need more of her, hmm? Thanks so much!!

Aww, this was a really sweet and appropriately holiday themed take on the next gen kids. I liked how they all brought something to solving the puzzles! And I always think that people should argue more about History. I did wonder slightly about your choice to exorcise all the ghosts from Hogwarts, although obviously getting rid of Binns as history teacher is a fantastic idea, I'm really not sure about Hogwarts not having any ghosts at all, it sort of takes away some of the magic. Would be lovely to hear more of your thoughts about this.

Thanks! And my substantially-belated follow-up: I guess I wasn't approaching it from the perspective of the ambiance so much as for the ghosts' own sake; I think within the overall mythos of the series (at least my interpretation), as individuals they'd prefer to move on if given a second chance, so that was my way of giving it to them. (I had originally come up with that idea for an eighth-year fic that I started but never finished, and then spun it off into its own oneshot but that doesn't have anything to do with this fic.) Hogwarts will have to find some other way of providing background magic, but I think they're not going to be too hurt in that department!

Lovely Albus voice in this story. :) I enjoyed the three of them figuring out how to extricate themselves from their predicament!

I liked the view of next gen staff members, and the headmistress' advent calender was a really good idea. Your Scorpius had a brilliant voice as well and I loved how friendly the academic rivalry was.

Appreciated! I get the feeling that Rose and Scorpius' rivalry is going to stay friendly, but still very intense, as the years go by--or at least until they can start branching off into electives that don't overlap with each other!
