Title: The Snake and the Skull Author: fugacious_love Rating: PG Word Count: 1200 Character(s): Peter Pettigrew, Regulus Black, Sirius Black, James Potter, Lily Evans, Remus Lupin Warnings: None ( The Snake and the Skull )
"Might've been the closest thing to 'yes' she's given so far, mate," Sirius said.
*snerk*
part of him wanted to grab Sirius and drag him to the Slytherin common room, push up Regulus's left sleeve, and shout himself hoarse that Sirius and James and Remus must do something before it was too late
I love this. It's a nice way to elaborate on Peter's motivation for joining Voldemort (doesn't he say, "I had no choice" in PoA?) - he doesn't feel that he himself has any power to stop things, only that the others do. Of course, that isn't exactly true.
I love Peter fics and this one is perfect -- his growing sense of hopelessness and fear are portrayed exactly right, I feel. The Marauders are completely on point here, and I really liked this look at their relations in this time frame. Great job!
This is a lovely, brooding fic - you've developed a great atmosphere here, and I can really feel for Peter and his sense of being caught up in something he's powerless to stop. That 'debilitating sense of uselessness'made me think of the scene at the end of PoA where Sirius and Remus are so clear about what Peter 'should have' done. So easy for them. Poor Peter!
So I went back to read this again, because I love this fic and I needed a pick me up this morning. I just realized I never commented I'm so sorry! It's been an insane month for me and I just assumed I left a comment the first time I read it, but i must not have had time and meant to leave a comment later that day, which the never happened.
I'm so sorry >.>
This fic is wonderful, and everything I wanted to read. You got the characterization exactly right, at least IMHO, and the interactions were all just perfect.
And oh god, Regulus being able to tell peter and not his own brother, I get way, and it's perfect that he can't, it just so underlines the dysfunction of the black family and makes the fic so sad.
thank you again and I'm sorry i'm late commenting!

The ending was lovely, too, and very effective.
