Oof, the title says it all, really! Poor Ron - not a good decision.

I enjoyed your Malfoy - still a complete bastard, but a bastard with a purpose. :)

Thank you so very much for this, mystery writer! That was an interesting clash of personalities, and you certainly took up and developed quite a few character traits Ron exhibits in canon. Poor man - still so insecure, and such a victim of his own temper!

I liked smooth, manipulative Lucius who knows exactly where to put the finger to make sure it hurts, and his attempt to regain his lost pre-war status was very much in character. And he also showed just the right degree of un-subtlety he displayed with Fudge and others up to OotP.

Again, thanks a lot for writing this for me! :)

This is absolutely fascinating. I'd love to know more about this - both how the situation came about and what heppened next!

Ah, Lucius. :))

I love the way he plays this - so many fics (including mine...) have Lucius as a cruel predator, and, well, he is here too, but it's a real pleasure to see him being... not subtle, because he isn't, but exacting payment in a currency that is social rather than physical.

I feel you're doing Ron and Hermione a slight injustice here - Ron is, after all, a war hero in his own right, and I'd be surprised if Hermione really forbade him to follow a path where he could be happy and use his talents, and I'd be equally surprised if he really needed her to pull strings to get him into the Ministry where his Dad is so well respected. But I can definitely see him being afraid of her reaction to his failure, and his inner voice is wonderful. I particularly enjoyed his reaction to Lucius showing up in the pub.

though the Muggle pub across the road didn't look that inviting on first sight, it didn't have Lucius in it, and that could only be a good thing.

Indeed. :)
