Absolutely stunning imagery here. I could feel and see it all as you described. And what a fabulous time-out moment from the war for these friends. I was both joyous and sad for them at the same time, knowing what waits around the next bend in that path they're on. You managed to capture it all in less than 500 words. BRILLIANT!
