Oh, squee!

This is exactly what I had in mind, dear Mystery Author, only better.

Wonderful characters and atmosphere, straight talk about the world in which they find themselves, no-nonsense accpetance of the unpleasant parts of their work--just the ticket!

The feeling around each other to figure out the niceties of the other's world is spot-on.

I love the matter-of-fact tone of the discussions of killing--one imagines each of these women fully understands the exigencies of the job--and the unemotional way they acknowledge the horror of it. It's the kind of thing people imagine women to be incapable of doing, and it's perfect to see that exploded here.

I also love Amelia's wonder at Muggle technology--it feels a bit like what I experience when I see a Bond film and the wonders Q produces.

Actually, she was still reeling from the fact of this person's existence, and had she not known the prior director of MI6 well, she would have thought it a joke or a sign of dementia. Tee, hee!

Seemed a waste of funds to make it over when it' ( ... )

I haven't seen a Bond/HP crossover before. I'm curious to see how this ends up.

Thanks,

I swear, I tried to talk several really good authors into picking up this prompt. They all professed difficulty in avoiding an M/Amelia romance.

So you were stuck with me. In any case, the prompt was just great.

I'm happy it was a bit of what you had in mind.

"That's what the double zero is for, Commander Bond." <- Heh, nice one! I can't appreciate the Bond references but even so, seeing him trying to make sense of the situation was an entertaining scene.

I read the Bond books when they were current. One of my first literary guilty pleasures. I had to Netflix the movies with Judy Dench in them to get her character in mind. She was great, as always.

Thanks for reading, glad you enjoyed it in spite of not getting the "inside jokes" all the time.

Not a crossover that would've occurred to me, but it makes eminent sense, and is exceedingly well executed. Bravo!

There's even a part 2 -- can't wait!

My thanks.

I had never thought of this either, but the prompt fairly screamed at me.

Subsequently, my betas, TRS and Tetley screamed at me. When that happens one does well to pay attention, trust me.

This is an inspired idea, letting Amelia meet M. I can see exactly why they would appeal to each other: each has no equal in her own world, and there must be a lot of relief in meeting someone who understands exactly what one has been through. I like the parallel visits to each other's homes -- each getting to see the "real" woman -- and I think the Bond cameo works very well. I can just hear Craig and Dench. I also like the idea of Moody as Bond's counterpart -- yes! Other clever things: Amelia's response to the "magic" of Muggle technology is a great touch. I've seen so many stories about how amazed Muggles are to see wizarding magic; it's fun to see how it can work the other way around. And the idea that each woman has to have her escape, whether painting or gardening -- yes, this makes a lot of sense.

Thanks, I'm glad it made some sort of sense. This one could have gone either way, for sure.

Tetley informed me that French people actually could pronounce "h". I figured she'd know better than I would.
