You know, normally I’d be the first to admit that I’m not a Percy fan. It’s not because I dislike him, per se, but he doesn’t interest me. I knew Percy, in high school. Percy is one character who I always feel was mis-Sorted. If he'd been in Slytherin, he would have learned how to deal with his ambitions -- Gryffindor doesn't really encourage people to climb upper the ladder (be it social, career, or other ladder).

He really is making good decisions, based on his goals *and* the information he has --for all that his parents want him to align himself with their goals, they haven't given him the knowledge that might make him a supporter of Dumbledore.

pharnabazus does an excellent job of explaining why Percy's loyalties are separate from him family's as of OotP. Also, making his own decisions at this stage at his life (he's 19 to 20 in OotP) is entirely to be expected, though he is apparently the only one who has done so in a way the rest of the family doesn't want to tolerate ( ... )

Thank you so much for writing this. For ages, I've been thinking about how that must have felt for Percy, to come home all excited about a promotion and get slapped down like that. And wonderful point about Ginny. Because Percy has shown that, in his stuffy way, he cares for her, but she abandons him just like everyone else. Very well-thought out.

*claps* Hear, hear!

I hate that people make Percy out to be teh EVIL, just because he does have his doubts regarding Harry credibility. Just because he isn't cool like the rest of his siblings he gets alienated. As a Prefect and Head Boy all he does is trying to be fair by watching over the twins. And did you notice that he is the only one who doesn't play Quidditch (well, maybe Bill too, but we don't know that)? It's like all the cool Weasleys play Quidditch except Percy, therefore he isn't cool and sucks and should die. (/sarcasm)

BTW, what is your Hermione rant going to be about?
